IRS Leaks Over 400,000 Taxpayers’ Information Under Biden Administration
House Judiciary Committee reveals shocking scope of IRS data breach.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has admitted to a massive data breach that exposed the private tax information of over 405,000 Americans, including former President Donald Trump, according to a bombshell revelation from the GOP-led House Committee on the Judiciary. This unprecedented leak occurred under the Biden administration, raising serious concerns about the agency’s transparency and accountability.
In a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), acting IRS Commissioner Douglas O’Donnell detailed the extent of the breach. The letter confirmed that the IRS had sent notifications to 405,427 taxpayers whose sensitive tax returns and/or return information were unlawfully disclosed. This staggering figure is nearly six times higher than the IRS’s initial estimate of 70,000 affected taxpayers.
The leak was orchestrated by former IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn, who accessed taxpayer information and passed it to media outlets like The New York Times and ProPublica, a known left-wing organization. Littlejohn, who was convicted for his actions, is currently serving time in a Florida prison.
The leaked information was weaponized by progressive media to fuel narratives against Donald Trump and bolster leftist agendas, including attempts to delegitimize the Supreme Court. This politically charged misuse of personal data under the Biden administration raises critical questions:
Why did the IRS fail to notify victims earlier?
What specific taxpayer information was leaked?
How deeply involved were other IRS officials or administration figures in this breach?
The House Committee on the Judiciary voiced its outrage on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “The IRS’s admission confirms the Committee’s suspicion and recent reports that show the scope of the leak was much broader than what the Biden Administration’s IRS initially led the public to believe.”
Back in May 2024, an IRS spokesman claimed that only 70,000 taxpayers were impacted. However, this number has since ballooned to over 405,000, highlighting either gross incompetence or a deliberate attempt to downplay the scandal.
Adding to the frustration, the First Notices sent to victims lacked critical details. According to law firm Morgan Lewis, these notices failed to specify what information was leaked, which documents were exposed, or the relevant time periods, leaving many recipients in the dark.
Chairman Jim Jordan is leading the charge to get to the bottom of this egregious breach of trust. The IRS claims it is still gathering materials to respond fully to Jordan’s inquiry, but taxpayers deserve swift and transparent answers not bureaucratic delays.
The IRS’s mishandling of this breach not only erodes public trust but also showcases the Biden administration’s continued failure to protect Americans' private information. With over 405,000 victims, this is not just a scandal it’s a massive violation of privacy rights and a wake-up call for serious reform at the IRS.
