Iranian-Backed Terror Group Injures U.S. Personnel in Iraq

Several U.S. personnel were injured late Monday in a rocket attack on the Al-Asad Airbase in Iraq, reportedly orchestrated by an Iranian-backed terrorist group. Charles Lister, director of the Syria program at the Washington-based Middle East Institute think tank, highlighted the severity of the situation, noting on X (formerly Twitter), “Today’s rocket attack on Ain al-Asad was the 219th attack by Iran’s proxies on U.S. forces in Syria & Iraq since Oct 2023.” He further emphasized that six attacks have occurred in the last three weeks alone.

Additionally, media sources linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the attack through one of their proxies, adding another layer of complexity to the geopolitical tension in the region.

This incident coincides with reports suggesting that Iran might launch an attack on Israel in the coming days, following the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh last week in Tehran. Various sources indicate that Iranian-backed terrorist groups from Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq could join this coordinated assault.
