Iran And Hezbollah Launch Cluster Bomb Barrage On Israel
Coordinated missile and drone strikes using cluster munitions mark a dangerous escalation in the widening regional war.

The war expanding across the Middle East took a dangerous new turn this week as Iran and Hezbollah launched coordinated attacks on Israel using cluster munitions, dramatically increasing the intensity of the conflict.
Security analysts say the strikes signal that Hezbollah has now fully entered the war alongside Tehran, opening a new front against Israel while the region braces for further escalation.
Kobi Michael, a senior researcher at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies, said the attacks appear highly coordinated between the two Iran-backed forces.
“Hezbollah has fully joined the war, and it looks like they are now very well coordinated with Iran,” Michael said while speaking from a bomb shelter near Tel Aviv.
According to Michael, Hezbollah rockets and drones are being launched at the same time as Iranian missile barrages overwhelming Israel’s air defense systems and forcing millions of civilians to remain near shelters.
Israel confirmed that Iran has begun using cluster munitions, a particularly dangerous type of weapon designed to spread dozens of smaller explosives across a wide area.
These warheads detonate at high altitude, scattering multiple bomblets that fall toward the ground before exploding.
Cluster munitions create several major challenges for defenders:
The bomblets spread across large areas, increasing the risk to civilians.
The smaller explosives are much harder for missile defenses to intercept.
Some bomblets fail to detonate immediately, creating lingering hazards.
Israeli officials say roughly half of the projectiles now being fired from Iran contain cluster warheads, making them especially difficult to stop.
Despite Israel’s advanced missile defense network including systems such as Iron Dome and David’s Sling the surge in coordinated strikes is placing significant strain on defensive resources.
Cities across northern Israel are under heavy bombardment.
Areas near Haifa and Tel Aviv have repeatedly sounded air raid sirens as residents rush into shelters during incoming attacks.
“Israeli citizens are spending much of their time in shelter rooms,” Michael said, warning that Hezbollah and Iran are deliberately targeting civilian areas and infrastructure.
Cluster munitions have long been among the most controversial weapons used in modern warfare.
More than 120 countries signed the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions, an international agreement banning their use due to the high risk of civilian casualties. However, several major military powers including the United States, Russia, and Israel — have not joined the treaty.
Military analysts say Iran’s decision to use the weapons represents a significant escalation.
Some experts argue that the widespread impact of cluster warheads could blur the line between conventional and unconventional weapons.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah is reportedly preparing for a longer conflict with Israel.
Sources familiar with the group’s strategy say Hezbollah fighters are adopting guerrilla warfare tactics in southern Lebanon, operating in small units and limiting electronic communications to avoid Israeli surveillance.
The group is also rationing advanced anti-tank missiles while positioning fighters near key border regions where a potential Israeli ground invasion could begin.
Much of Hezbollah’s activity has reportedly focused near the Lebanese town of Khiyam, located near the intersection of the Israeli, Lebanese, and Syrian borders.
Israeli military officials believe Hezbollah’s elite Radwan forces have also returned to the area following their withdrawal after a previous ceasefire.
In response to the escalating attacks, the Israel Defense Forces launched new airstrikes targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut’s southern suburbs a stronghold of the militant group.
Israeli officials also issued evacuation warnings for the area before the strikes began.
Military analysts say Israel may eventually attempt to establish a security buffer zone in southern Lebanon, potentially extending from the Israeli border to the Litani River.
Such a zone would be designed to push Hezbollah rocket forces farther away from Israeli population centers in the north.
For now, however, the war continues to intensify as Iran, Hezbollah, and Israel exchange increasingly powerful strikes across multiple fronts.
