Illegal Immigrants Attempt to Board School Buses in Southern California, Sparking Safety Concerns

School district warns parents after multiple incidents of illegal immigrants targeting buses carrying children.

In a disturbing series of incidents in southern California, more than 20 illegal immigrants attempted to board school buses carrying children, prompting swift action from local authorities and a stern warning from the school district. The incidents occurred on two separate occasions this week in the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District, raising serious concerns about student safety.

The first incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon when three men reportedly walked into the middle of the road, trying to stop a school bus filled with children. According to Superintendent Liz Bystedt, the bus driver had to maneuver around the men to continue on its route safely.

The situation escalated the following day when a different bus stopped at a designated pick-up point near the location of the previous day's incident. This time, the bus was confronted by a group of 20 illegal immigrants attempting to board. Thankfully, parents waiting at the stop intervened, ensuring that no illegal immigrants boarded the bus and that the children were safely seated.

While it's unclear if these two groups were connected, the incidents were serious enough to prompt the district to contact multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Border Patrol, California Highway Patrol, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

In response to these alarming events, the San Diego Sheriff’s Office issued a statement, indicating they are conducting a follow-up investigation to determine if any criminal acts occurred. “The Sheriff’s Office takes issues regarding student safety very seriously and are working with the school district in order to keep the students and our community safe,” the statement read.

Jamul, located just 25 miles from the Mexican border city of Tijuana, has become a hotspot for illegal border crossings, with the San Diego sector experiencing over 37,000 arrests in April alone. The proximity to the border has made the area particularly vulnerable to such incidents, adding to the growing concerns of local residents and parents.

In light of these events, the school district has implemented new safety measures. Bus drivers are now instructed to bypass any stops where illegal immigrants are present, with parents advised to follow the bus to the next stop to ensure their children’s safety. Superintendent Bystedt also assured parents that the district's director of maintenance and operations would begin trailing buses to monitor for any further disruptions.

“Please stay vigilant and if the bus drives by, please follow the bus to pick up your child at the next stop,” Bystedt wrote in an email to parents. This precautionary approach underscores the gravity of the situation and the district’s commitment to student safety.

As authorities continue to investigate, these incidents serve as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by illegal immigration, particularly in border communities. The safety of American children should never be compromised, and the community’s response highlights the importance of vigilance in protecting our most vulnerable.
