House Moves Forward With Trump’s $3.3 Trillion Agenda Bill After GOP Holdouts Fold
Trump pressures House Republicans to unite and deliver landmark tax cuts, defense spending, and border reforms.

In a dramatic overnight session, the House of Representatives narrowly voted to advance President Donald Trump’s $3.3 trillion legislative package marking a critical step toward enacting the most ambitious economic and national security agenda of his second term. The 219-213 vote to adopt the debate rules sets the stage for a final House vote, expected to take place Thursday morning.
Despite threats of rebellion from fiscal hawks and members of the House Freedom Caucus, intense lobbying from Speaker Mike Johnson and direct pressure from Trump himself brought wavering Republicans into line except for one: moderate Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), who was the sole GOP defector.
The bill is nothing short of monumental:
Permanently extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, ensuring lower rates for millions of Americans.
Raises the debt ceiling by $5 trillion to avert default while launching structural economic reforms.
Cuts Biden-era green energy tax credits, reversing the Inflation Reduction Act’s climate giveaways.
Eliminates taxes on tipped wages and overtime for working Americans.
Injects billions into national defense and ICE, reaffirming Trump’s America First agenda on border security.
While the Senate passed its amended version earlier this week thanks to a tie-breaking vote from Vice President JD Vance House conservatives initially threatened to block the measure over increased spending. But those objections were ultimately overridden by Trump’s full-throated call for unity.
Trump addressed the party on Truth Social: “It is no longer a ‘House Bill’ or a ‘Senate Bill’. It is everyone’s Bill… The Biggest Winner of them all will be the American People, who will have Permanently Lower Taxes, Higher Wages and Take Home Pay, Secure Borders, and a Stronger and More Powerful Military.”
Despite Trump’s urging, some conservative lawmakers including Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Ralph Norman (R-SC) continued to voice opposition over the Senate’s changes. Yet their resistance crumbled as the political momentum clearly shifted toward delivering on a sweeping victory before the July 4th deadline.
The bill’s welfare reforms, including new work requirements for Medicaid and food assistance, have also drawn fire from Democrats, who claim the legislation cuts benefits for working-class Americans. But GOP leaders have countered that these reforms ensure programs serve those who truly need help while incentivizing employment and independence.
Progressive Democrats, meanwhile, tried to delay the process with procedural roadblocks. Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) admitted Democrats hoped to drag the bill down with extended floor debates and procedural antics. But it wasn’t enough to stop Republicans from advancing a measure that fulfills nearly every pillar of Trump’s second-term platform.
This bill is not just legislation it’s a mandate. It’s the culmination of years of conservative economic vision, finally within reach. As Trump himself said, “We are on schedule Let’s keep it going, and be done before you and your family go on a July 4th vacation.”
Now the question remains: Will House Republicans finish the job?
