Hillary Clinton Calls for Media to Push Narrative of Trump as a Danger
Clinton Urges Consistent Messaging as She Criticizes Trump and Warns of Russian Interference.
Twice-failed Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made headlines again last week, insisting that the media must promote a "consistent narrative" portraying former President Donald Trump as a danger to the country. Clinton's remarks came during a special edition of PBS News’ “Firing Line with Margaret Hoover,” held at the Clinton Global Initiative.
Discussing what she views as the existential threat posed by Trump, Clinton called for a unified media front against the former president. “The press needs a consistent narrative about the danger that Trump poses,” she said, urging journalists to drive home that message to the American public. Clinton’s comments are part of her broader push to frame Trump as a threat to democracy, despite the fact that he has survived multiple assassination attempts and repeatedly condemned the Project 2025 initiative—a plan she falsely linked to him.
Clinton also took the opportunity to remind the public of her own political tribulations, asserting that she has been "the most investigated innocent person you have ever met." In her view, the scrutiny she faced was unjust, suggesting that similar tactics may be used to attack other Democratic figures.
Furthermore, Clinton raised concerns about potential foreign interference in the 2024 election, hinting that Russia would target Vice President Kamala Harris in a smear campaign leading up to the election. “There will be concerted efforts to distort and pervert Kamala Harris, who she is, what she stands for,” Clinton claimed, without offering specifics.
While Clinton’s rhetoric resonates with her base, many Americans are growing weary of these repeated attacks on Trump, especially as polls show him leading among likely Republican voters. The attempt to tie Trump to an unsubstantiated narrative reflects ongoing fears within the Democratic Party about his potential return to the White House.
The media's role in shaping political narratives cannot be understated, but Clinton's call for a "consistent narrative" is already facing backlash. As the 2024 election approaches, the American public will decide whether the continuous drumbeat of media attacks on Trump will have any real impact.
