Harvard Sues Trump Administration Over $2.2 Billion Funding Freeze
After ignoring anti-Semitism on campus, the Ivy League giant now demands taxpayer money with no accountability.

Harvard University, the wealthiest academic institution in the United States, has officially sued the federal government after the Trump administration froze more than $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts, citing Harvard’s failure to address anti-Semitic activity on campus.
The lawsuit, filed Monday, marks a dramatic escalation in the administration’s ongoing campaign to hold elite universities accountable for radical, anti-American, and anti-Jewish activism that has festered in the ivory towers of academia.
The federal funding was frozen after Harvard’s administration repeatedly refused to take meaningful action against pro-Hamas protests and anti-Semitic rhetoric on campus following the October 7 terrorist attacks in Israel. In one of the most egregious moments, student groups openly blamed Israel for the massacre, sparking national outrage and donor backlash.
Now, Harvard is demanding that taxpayers continue to fund its research even while it shields radicalism and refuses to enact reforms.
The Trump administration’s Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism is leading the charge against elite universities who fail to protect Jewish students.
In retaliation, Harvard President Alan Garber called the cuts “government overreach” and claimed they threaten projects like childhood cancer research, trying to shift the narrative.
Meanwhile, the administration is considering freezing an additional $1 billion, and the Department of Homeland Security is weighing restrictions on Harvard’s access to foreign exchange student programs.
A White House spokesman didn’t mince words: “Instead of grandstanding, Harvard should focus on rebuilding confidence among all students, particularly Jewish students. Serious changes are needed.”
Let’s be clear: this isn’t about stifling free speech. It’s about cutting off taxpayer money to a university that’s become a safe haven for extremist ideology and a breeding ground for hate. Harvard’s reputation has plummeted in recent years not because of budget cuts, but because of its moral collapse.
The administration has also signaled that it’s considering revoking Harvard’s nonprofit status through the Treasury Department a move that could hit the school where it hurts most: its $50 billion endowment.
Unlike Columbia University, which agreed to work with the government after facing similar consequences, Harvard has chosen to dig in its heels. But that decision may cost them far more than federal dollars.
If Harvard wants to be taken seriously as an institution that values all students equally including Jewish Americans it’s going to need more than a lawsuit. It needs a soul-searching reckoning with what it has become.
