Harris's Platform Announcement Sparks Memories of 2019 Proposal
Critics Remind VP of Previous Unsuccessful Policies.
Vice President Kamala Harris recently announced plans to unveil a new policy platform focusing on the economy and reducing costs, promising to deliver it “next week.” However, critics quickly pointed out that Harris had previously introduced a platform during her 2019 presidential campaign, which failed to gain traction with her own party.
Philip Wegmann, a reporter for Real Clear Politics, shared the update on X, stating, “Vice President Harris says to expect a policy platform from her ‘next week,’ telling reporters ‘it’ll be focused on the economy and what we need to do to bring down costs.’”
Critics Respond:
Past Proposals Resurface: Critics swiftly recalled Harris’s 2019 platform, which included controversial proposals such as eliminating private health insurance, supporting the Green New Deal, banning fracking, decriminalizing illegal immigration, providing taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants, gun confiscation, and redirecting funds away from police departments.
Lack of Traction in 2019: Harris’s 2019 platform struggled to resonate with Democratic voters, leading her to drop out of the primary race before the first caucuses and primaries. Despite being on the 2024 Democratic ticket, she did not secure a single primary vote on her own.
Political commentator Guy Benson highlighted Harris’s previous platform, saying, “Her platform has already been announced. By her: Eliminate private health insurance, the Green New Deal, ban fracking, decriminalize illegal immigration, taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants, gun confiscation & redirecting funds away from police. All on the record.”
Richard Grenell criticized the timing of Harris’s announcement, stating, “She’s been VP for over 3 years but she’ll share some ideas ‘next week.’ Don’t be duped.”
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) questioned the need for a new platform, asking, “1) What happened to ‘Bidenomics is working’? 2) Why isn’t Kamala Harris focused on bringing down costs in the job she has now?”
CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings jabbed at Harris for her recent policy positions, particularly her support for ending taxes on tips — a stance she adopted shortly after former President Donald Trump announced a similar policy. Jennings quipped, “Why does it take until next week to cut and paste from Trump’s website?”
Harris’s upcoming policy announcement comes amid increasing scrutiny of her past political positions and her role in the current administration. With the 2024 election approaching, the Vice President faces pressure to clarify her stance and propose solutions that address the economic concerns of everyday Americans.
