Former National Guardsman Charged With ISIS Plot to Attack US Military Base
DOJ says 19-year-old planned mass shooting, used drone for recon, and trained operatives on behalf of foreign terrorist group.

In a chilling reminder of the threats that continue to lurk within our own borders, a former Army National Guardsman has been charged with plotting a mass shooting at a U.S. military base in Warren, Michigan allegedly on behalf of ISIS.
Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, just 19 years old, was arrested Tuesday after an undercover FBI operation caught him planning an attack on the U.S. Army’s Tank-Automotive & Armaments Command (TACOM), a critical military facility that supports more than 8,000 Department of Defense personnel.
The Department of Justice revealed that Said provided material support for the planned assault, including:
Supplying armor-piercing ammunition and magazines
Flying a drone over the TACOM base for reconnaissance
Training others on how to build Molotov cocktails and use firearms
Mapping out attack strategies, identifying entrances and building targets
The arrest came just before the scheduled date of the attack May 13 after Said and two undercover law enforcement agents finalized the plans.
This wasn’t just a thought crime. This was a highly detailed, well-planned domestic terror plot — targeting active-duty military and civilian personnel inside the Detroit Arsenal, a facility housing 144 soldiers and thousands of contractors.
“The arrest of this former soldier is a sobering reminder of the importance of our counterintelligence efforts,” said Brig. Gen. Rhett R. Cox, commanding general of Army Counterintelligence Command.
Said enlisted in the Michigan Army National Guard in 2022 and was later discharged in December 2024, though the reason for his discharge remains undisclosed. He allegedly began planning the ISIS-linked attack just one month prior to his removal from service.
Now facing federal charges of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization and distributing information related to a destructive device, Said could be sentenced to up to 40 years in prison.
“Helping ISIS or any other terrorist organization prepare or carry out acts of violence is not only a reprehensible crime – it is a threat to our entire nation and way of life,” said U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon Jr.
What’s especially alarming is how deep Said managed to embed himself into the system from the National Guard to training camps, all while secretly aligning with one of America’s deadliest enemies.
The incident raises major questions about recruitment, vetting, and the vulnerability of our armed forces. If a 19-year-old with terrorist sympathies can get access to military infrastructure, how many more are slipping through the cracks under the current administration’s lackadaisical approach to national security?
Under President Trump’s first term, counterterrorism and homeland security were prioritized. Now, amid rising global instability and open border chaos, the threats are back and they’re inside the wire.
This isn’t just a law enforcement story. It’s a wake-up call. America needs leadership that takes national security seriously. The clock is ticking.
