Democratic Governor Blocks Deportation Assistance as ICE Arrests Child Rapists
Massachusetts governor refuses cooperation while ICE apprehends alleged predators in her state.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested three illegal aliens accused of raping children in Massachusetts, just days after Democratic Governor Maura Healey declared her state would not assist federal deportation efforts. The arrests underscore the stark consequences of sanctuary policies that prioritize shielding illegal aliens over public safety.
Among the individuals apprehended was Alexandre Romao De Oliveira, a Brazilian national who was previously convicted of raping a child in Brazil in 2022. Despite his criminal record, De Oliveira managed to illegally enter the United States the same year. ICE agents arrested him this week in Methuen, Massachusetts.
Two other alleged child rapists were also taken into ICE custody:
Mynor Stiven De Paz-Munoz, a Guatemalan national, was charged with raping a child and had been held by Great Barrington Police. Despite the serious charges, local authorities ignored an ICE detainer, allowing him to remain at large until ICE agents intervened.
Billy Erney Buitrago-Bustos, a Colombian national, was arrested by Great Barrington Police for forcibly raping a child. Unlike Paz-Munoz, the Berkshire County Jail honored ICE’s detainer, facilitating his transfer to federal custody.
Acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde of Boston’s Enforcement and Removal Operations highlighted the severity of these cases, stating, “These individuals pose significant threats to our communities, and we are committed to removing them to ensure public safety.”
The arrests come as Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey doubled down on her refusal to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. Healey has explicitly stated that state police will “absolutely not” assist in deportations and suggested her administration may fight Trump’s deportation policies in court.
This defiant stance not only undermines federal law but also puts Massachusetts families at risk by creating safe havens for dangerous individuals. Critics argue that such policies embolden criminal activity, as local law enforcement is often restricted from coordinating with ICE even in cases involving violent crimes.
These cases illustrate the devastating consequences of weak immigration enforcement. Sanctuary policies not only obstruct ICE’s ability to remove dangerous criminals but also expose innocent Americans to preventable tragedies.
President-elect Donald Trump’s administration has pledged to enforce immigration laws aggressively and prioritize the deportation of criminal illegal aliens. However, the resistance from Democratic governors like Healey shows the deep divide in America’s approach to immigration enforcement.
While Healey and other blue-state leaders signal their allegiance to open-border policies, ICE remains steadfast in its mission to protect communities. For now, the safety of Massachusetts residents appears to depend on federal agents filling the gap left by a state government more interested in political grandstanding than public safety.
