Former Top Aide to NYC Mayor Charged in $100,000 Corruption Scheme

Ingrid Lewis-Martin and her son allegedly took bribes to influence city projects.

In a stunning corruption case, Ingrid Lewis-Martin, the former chief adviser to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and her son, Glenn Martin II, were charged with accepting $100,000 in bribes from businessmen seeking favorable treatment on city construction projects. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office alleges the two conspired to exchange official actions for financial gain over a two-and-a-half-year period, using the illicit funds to purchase a Porsche.

According to prosecutors, Lewis-Martin used her position as a high-ranking city official to assist businessmen Raizada Vaid, also known as "Pinky," and Mayank Dwivedi in navigating city bureaucracy. The indictment claims the scheme ran from January 2022 to June 2024 and involved direct payments to Lewis-Martin and her son, who allegedly acted as an intermediary.

Key details from the case include:

  • Payments: Bribes were made via written checks, cashed to finance personal purchases like luxury vehicles.

  • Influence: The alleged goal was to secure approvals for construction projects from the city's Building Department.

  • Communications: Wiretaps, text messages, and encrypted app conversations reportedly captured incriminating exchanges between the defendants.

Lewis-Martin’s lawyer dismissed the charges as implausible, arguing, “To think that a high-ranking city official would take a bribe in the form of a check deposited into a bank account defies common sense.” The defense plans to argue that her decades of service to New York City make her incapable of such actions.

This case is the latest in a series of scandals plaguing Mayor Eric Adams’ administration. Multiple officials, including Adams himself, have faced allegations of corruption in unrelated cases. The growing controversy raises questions about the integrity of City Hall and the administration's leadership.

Prosecutors’ use of wiretaps and encrypted communications in this case highlights their commitment to cracking down on public corruption. If convicted, Lewis-Martin and her co-defendants could face serious consequences.

As the trial unfolds, this case serves as a stark reminder of the need for accountability at all levels of government.
