DeSantis unveils new Florida deportation center to expand Trump immigration crackdown
The Deportation Depot joins Alligator Alcatraz as part of a growing national effort to remove illegal aliens and restore law and order.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is ramping up efforts to assist President Trump’s immigration crackdown with the announcement of a new facility aimed at speeding up the deportation of illegal aliens. Dubbed the “Deportation Depot,” the facility marks the third in a growing network of centers designed to detain and remove individuals who have entered the U.S. illegally or overstayed their visas.
“We’re taking yet another step in supporting the important mission that President Trump was elected to implement securing the border, enforcing immigration laws, and removing illegal aliens from our society,” DeSantis said at a Thursday press conference.
The new site will be based out of Baker Correctional Institution, located just west of Jacksonville. With the capacity to house between 1,300 and 2,000 detainees, the Deportation Depot is poised to become one of the most significant state-run deportation hubs in the country. DeSantis noted that much of the existing infrastructure was previously unused, allowing for quick conversion into a facility focused on immigration enforcement.
The move expands the footprint of what the media has come to call “Alligator Alcatraz” Florida’s first deportation-focused site launched earlier this summer. That facility has already made headlines for its speed and efficiency in deporting hundreds of illegal immigrants, even as left-wing protesters and environmental activists rally outside the gates.
Despite the noise, the results speak for themselves.
“This is a priority for the people of our state. It’s a priority for the people of this country. And I don’t want to see any more Angel Moms,” DeSantis said, referring to families whose loved ones were killed by illegal immigrants a tragic consequence of failed border policies under previous administrations.
With a nearby airport enabling streamlined deportation logistics, the Deportation Depot is designed to work closely with ICE and DHS, which, according to DeSantis, will reimburse the state for operational costs.
This isn’t just a Florida initiative it’s part of a larger national campaign led by the Trump administration. Alongside Alligator Alcatraz, the Speedway Slammer in Indiana is also slated to begin operations in partnership with state leaders committed to law and order.
Trump’s broader immigration war has also gone legal. The administration has:
Filed lawsuits against sanctuary cities like New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago
Pressured federal courts to demand compliance with immigration detainer requests
Supported federal prosecutions of those harboring illegal aliens, including a Texas bakery case that recently ended in a conviction
Even blue cities are beginning to fold. Washington, D.C., and Louisville, Kentucky have already started walking back sanctuary policies in the face of growing public backlash and legal pressure.
The Biden administration once declared sanctuary cities untouchable. President Trump is proving that no one is above the law especially those whose policies put American lives at risk.
This latest move by DeSantis shows that states don't have to sit on the sidelines. With willing leadership and coordination, America’s immigration laws can be enforced and our communities protected.
