Whistleblower Claims FEMA Urged Georgia Hurricane Victims to Remove Trump Signs, Says Comer

Whistleblowers allege politically motivated discrimination in disaster response.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer dropped a bombshell Tuesday, alleging that FEMA discriminated against Trump supporters in its hurricane relief efforts. According to Comer, a whistleblower revealed that a FEMA contractor told a Georgia family to remove Trump signs from their property to avoid being labeled "domestic terrorists" by agency supervisors.

The claims, revealed during a congressional hearing, sparked outrage among Republican lawmakers. FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell was grilled for hours over reports of politically motivated discrimination during disaster recovery operations.

Shocking Allegations of Political Bias

  • - A whistleblower claimed that a FEMA contractor told a Georgia family, which included an elderly disabled veteran, to remove pro-Trump signs from their yard following Hurricane Helene.

  • - The contractor allegedly warned the family that FEMA supervisors did not "take kindly" to Trump supporters. Despite complying, the family claims FEMA never returned to assist with their hurricane recovery.

  • - Similar accusations surfaced in Florida, where at least 20 homes with Trump signs were reportedly skipped during Hurricane Milton relief operations.

Criswell admitted during the hearing that the text message guidance to avoid homes displaying Trump signs was real but insisted it was an isolated incident. However, lawmakers challenged this narrative, citing dozens of reports from constituents and whistleblowers.

Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) revealed that 35 of his constituents claimed FEMA ignored or discriminated against them based on their political affiliation. Meanwhile, Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) slammed Criswell for failing to provide clarity on who in FEMA's leadership allowed such actions to occur.

“You have blatant discrimination going on,” McClain stated. “They fired the person who sent out the text, but what about the entire chain of command that permitted this behavior?”

Criswell confirmed that FEMA fired the employee responsible for the controversial text message and launched an internal investigation, alongside a probe by the Inspector General. Yet, the slow response and lack of transparency have left many Republicans questioning the agency's integrity.

The allegations of political discrimination raise serious concerns about the impartiality of federal agencies. FEMA, tasked with helping Americans in their most vulnerable moments, now faces a crisis of trust. These incidents highlight the growing politicization of government institutions under the current administration, eroding confidence in their ability to serve all Americans equally.

Congressional Republicans are demanding accountability, and the investigations into FEMA's conduct will likely intensify. As Hurricane season continues, Americans will be watching closely to see if the agency can restore faith in its operations or if its bias will continue to overshadow its mission.
