Feds Race to Embed 1,200 DEI Bureaucrats Before Trump’s Return
Biden administration scrambles to fill high-paid diversity roles ahead of incoming GOP leadership.
As the Biden administration counts down its final days, federal agencies are racing to embed up to 1,200 high-salaried bureaucrats focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into the permanent workforce. These roles, advertised at salaries reaching $310,000, represent a $160 million annual burden on taxpayers, just as Donald Trump prepares to take office in January 2025.
Positions are being filled at breakneck speed, with application windows closing mere days before the presidential transition. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), for example, is hiring a Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health at $221,900 to oversee programs rooted in “workforce diversity” and “health equity.”
Key agencies involved include:
The Federal Deposit Insurance Commission (FDIC): Hiring DEI directors at $310,000 to lead diversity plans and defend budgets.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS): Recruiting a $251,000 Deputy Director for Equal Employment Opportunity to influence policy and advance DEI priorities.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH): Seeking multiple “Scientific Diversity Officers” with salaries nearing $191,900.
The urgency has raised concerns among conservatives, who view these roles as attempts to embed leftist priorities into the federal government. These lifetime positions ensure that incoming Republican leadership will have little say over DEI policies at odds with their platform.
Former President Trump has been vocal about his opposition to such initiatives, particularly after reports surfaced of the Biden administration selling unused border wall materials a move Trump described as “crazy” and “wasteful.” The dismantling of his border wall project aligns with the DEI hiring spree, underscoring Biden’s intent to cement policies he knows Trump’s administration will oppose.
The Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Department of Defense are also part of the hiring frenzy. At the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI), positions range from $113,800 social media specialists to $191,900 equal opportunity officers, some of whom spend time producing DEI videos or creating posters like, “Diversity: ‘I want to celebrate the richness and diversity of our faith experience in this country.’ -Senator Barack Obama.”
Critics point out that these jobs often far exceed the median U.S. household income, with positions paying between $88,000 and $310,000 annually. Many question the necessity of such roles, especially when the government faces fiscal challenges.
This move to pack the bureaucracy with DEI-focused staff reflects a broader strategy by the Biden administration to entrench its policies before Trump’s anticipated return. For taxpayers, it’s yet another example of how the federal government continues to prioritize ideology over efficiency, even in its final hours.
