Facebook Ends Fact-Checking Program
Zuckerberg pulls the plug on censorship tool as Meta embraces free speech and prepares to work with Trump.

Meta is finally pulling the plug on its U.S. fact-checking program, marking a long-overdue shift back toward free speech on its platforms. As of Monday, the censorship-heavy initiative once used to throttle conservative voices will be “officially over,” according to the company. In its place: a new community-driven notes system that aims to crowdsource context without punishing users for dissenting opinions.
Let that sink in. After years of biased “fact-checks” targeting conservatives over the 2020 election, COVID-19, and Hunter Biden’s laptop, Facebook is admitting what we’ve all known its so-called oversight was a front for ideological control.
Key changes to Meta's new policy:
All fact-checking on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads ends Monday.
Old fact-check labels will disappear.
Meta’s new system will let verified users add notes to posts, similar to X’s Community Notes.
Meta’s Global Affairs Chief Joel Kaplan confirmed the news, stating, “No new fact checks and no fact checkers.” This move comes after Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged in January that Meta’s restrictive content policies had veered far from public sentiment.
Zuckerberg’s statements pull no punches. He openly admitted that the company had been pressured by none other than President Joe Biden’s administration to suppress conservative viewpoints. For anyone who lived through the blackout of the Hunter Biden laptop story or questioned the shifting goalposts of COVID narratives, this isn't news. It’s confirmation.
Zuckerberg didn’t just talk policy he gave a vision. Speaking about the future of expression on his platforms, he said:
“We’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms.”
He also criticized how discussions on gender and immigration had been policed, calling the restrictions “out of touch with mainstream discourse.” That’s putting it lightly. Americans have been deplatformed, demonetized, and silenced for saying what most people are thinking.
And it doesn’t stop with domestic policy. Zuckerberg made it clear that Meta will be working with President Trump yes, the incoming administration to push back against global censorship efforts targeting American companies. That’s a bold pivot from a tech industry that’s long bowed to foreign pressure and domestic leftist orthodoxy.
Here’s the reality: Facebook didn’t just wake up one morning and discover free speech. It was dragged back into reality by user backlash, congressional hearings, and a cultural shift that is rapidly rejecting top-down thought control. As Americans demand transparency and freedom of expression, the platforms that survive will be the ones that listen.
This is a win. Not just for conservatives, but for anyone who believes that open dialogue not bureaucratic “fact-checkers” should shape our public square.
