Musk Donates to GOP Ahead of 2026, Signaling Political Comeback

After public feud with Trump, billionaire entrepreneur returns to Republican fold with major checks and private dinners with party leaders.

Elon Musk is back in the political game and this time, he’s once again betting big on Republicans.

According to a new report from Axios, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO has begun cutting “big checks” to GOP candidates and political committees ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, marking a notable return to the Republican donor class just months after his high-profile spat with President Donald Trump.

Musk’s return to GOP politics suggests that the world’s richest man sees this election cycle as pivotal for the conservative movement and he’s putting his money where his mouth is.

Sources told Axios that Musk not only donated significant sums but also signaled his intent to continue supporting Republicans, especially those focused on shrinking government and restoring fiscal sanity.

Here’s what we know:

  • Musk previously spent an estimated $240 million backing Trump and GOP candidates in 2024 through his PAC, a move that helped fuel Republican victories and earned him an advisory role in the White House.

  • His relationship with Trump soured briefly in mid-2025 over a spending bill Musk opposed, which led to a public feud and Musk even hinted at starting a third party.

  • That rift now appears to be healing: the two were seen talking at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service in September and again at a private dinner with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

  • Musk’s recent sit-down with Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles at the VP’s residence also suggests a strategic realignment with Trump’s inner circle.

This isn’t just about policy it’s about power. With Democrats making a hard push to retake the House, Musk’s support could be a game-changer for GOP efforts to defend their congressional majorities.

The stakes are high. If Democrats retake the House in 2026, it would grind Trump’s America First agenda to a halt opening the door for more open-border policies, ESG mandates, and anti-business regulations. Musk, whose companies are frequently in the crosshairs of leftist bureaucrats, has every reason to back the GOP’s defense of free enterprise.

It wasn’t long ago that Musk was warning about “woke mind virus” ideologies infecting everything from education to corporate governance. Now, with the Biden-era bureaucracy still deeply entrenched, Musk sees the GOP as the only force capable of turning back the tide.

And while their 2025 falling-out was messy Musk accusing Trump of being in the Epstein files, Trump calling Musk “crazy” political necessity seems to have brought both men back to the table.

It’s a shrewd move on both sides.

  • Trump gains a high-powered ally in tech and finance.

  • Musk gains influence with a party that’s once again poised to dominate Washington.

And with campaign finance disclosures due next month, the exact size and scope of Musk’s contributions will soon become public. But it’s clear that Republicans are happy to have him back especially as they head into a volatile and high-stakes midterm cycle.

With control of Congress hanging in the balance and the conservative agenda on the line, Elon Musk’s political comeback may be just beginning.
