Musk Transitions from White House as DOGE Leadership Shifts
After helping slash the national deficit by a reported trillion dollars, Musk transitions away from DC to refocus on Tesla.

Elon Musk is stepping back from his temporary role in Washington, wrapping up his impactful work with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as he refocuses on running Tesla. Musk, who served as an unpaid special government employee under President Trump’s administration, is no longer working regularly from the White House, according to recent reports.
His exit doesn’t come as a shock. The White House had already made it clear earlier this month that the billionaire entrepreneur’s assignment was always intended to be temporary focused on cleaning up waste and driving efficiency within the federal government.
During his time at DOGE, Musk reportedly aimed to cut the federal deficit by a staggering $1 trillion. And according to Musk himself, that mission is close to complete.
“I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars within [130 days],” Musk told Fox News’ Bret Baier in a recent interview, referencing the typical length of service for special government employees.
Highlights from Musk’s time with DOGE include:
Leading internal reviews of bloated federal spending across agencies.
Recommending cuts and optimizations that reportedly saved hundreds of billions.
Helping launch a tech-driven overhaul of bureaucratic processes to cut red tape and waste.
Though exact figures haven’t been officially released, multiple senior officials and Musk himself have pointed to a trillion-dollar savings estimate from the effort a legacy that dwarfs anything achieved under the Biden administration’s bloated and directionless spending.
While Musk is no longer physically working from the White House, he continues to contribute remotely. White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles confirmed, “He hasn’t been here physically, but it really doesn’t matter much… it’s the same net effect.”
Wiles emphasized that Musk’s team is still active and operating out of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next to the West Wing. “He’s not out of it altogether… He’ll be stepping back a little, but he’s certainly not abandoning it.”
In a Tesla earnings call, Musk also told investors he would be “allocating far more of [his] time to Tesla” in the coming months a welcome shift for shareholders, but a loss for Washington.
While the D.C. establishment obsesses over optics, Musk got results delivering what the American people have wanted for decades real spending cuts, no-nonsense governance, and someone who actually gets things done.
