Ellen DeGeneres Heads to England Following Trump’s Presidential Win

Former talk show host leaves America over disappointment with Trump’s return.

Ellen DeGeneres, once America’s sweetheart of daytime TV, has reportedly packed her bags and left the United States. The reason? President-elect Donald Trump’s decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.

Sources close to the matter told The Wrap that the 66-year-old former talk show host and her wife, Portia De Rossi, recently relocated to a countryside home in South West England, two hours from London. Interestingly, the couple made the purchase before Election Day, signaling their waning confidence in the country’s direction.

An insider reportedly revealed that Trump’s victory was the breaking point. “They were very disillusioned and decided to get the hell out,” the source told TMZ.

This move isn’t just a post-election reaction it’s part of a broader retreat. Reports suggest DeGeneres plans to list her Montecito, California estate, a sprawling property she bought in 2019. For someone who built her career on relatability, DeGeneres’ detachment from the U.S. is glaring.

During the campaign, DeGeneres was vocal in her support for Kamala Harris. She even donated $3,300 to Harris’s campaign, according to Page Six. On Instagram, DeGeneres wrote, “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come! I can’t wait for @KamalaHarris to be our next president.”

DeGeneres announced earlier this year that she was stepping away from show business, wrapping up her Netflix comedy special, Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval. This came after her talk show ended in 2021, following a series of explosive allegations about a toxic workplace environment.

In her Netflix special, DeGeneres addressed her critics with her trademark humor. “Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business for being mean,” she quipped, referencing the 2020 Buzzfeed exposé that painted her once-beloved talk show as a hub of intimidation and alleged misconduct.

The comedian also reflected on her career’s ups and downs, from being shunned in 1997 for coming out as gay to now facing scrutiny for being “old, mean, and gay,” as she joked.

DeGeneres wrapped her final special with a striking admission: “I’ve spent a lifetime trying to make people happy. And I’ve cared far too much what other people think of me.”

Her choice to leave the United States, fueled by a mix of political disillusionment and personal reflection, seems to signal her ultimate withdrawal from the public eye. Whether this is the final chapter of her legacy or a temporary retreat remains to be seen.

For now, one thing is clear: DeGeneres has chosen to say goodbye to America on her own terms, taking her grievances with Trump’s victory across the Atlantic.
