Doug Burgum on the Trump Cabinet ‘We Have a Chance to Literally Change the Whole World’
Interior Secretary Highlights Trump’s Vision for Energy, Innovation, and Government Reform.

Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum offered an inside look at the first cabinet meeting of the new Trump administration, describing the energy in the room as “electric” and praising the president’s clear vision and strong leadership.
Speaking with Morning Wire, Burgum a former tech CEO and North Dakota governor shared his excitement about Trump’s hand-picked cabinet, a team filled with business leaders, problem solvers, and true conservatives dedicated to fixing America’s broken bureaucracy.
“I look around that room, and a number of those folks are friends of mine, people that I’ve known, people that have had great success in the private sector,” Burgum said. “People are making big sacrifices to come and do public service … to solve problems that people think are intractable, like our $2 trillion deficit. He’s empowering everybody.”
The Trump administration is prioritizing bold reforms, including:
Revitalizing American Energy–Unlocking domestic oil, gas, and rare earth mineral production.
Shrinking Government Waste–Cutting bureaucratic bloat through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project.
Strengthening the Economy–Rebuilding America’s industrial base by expanding mining, timber, and offshore drilling.
Burgum emphasized that Trump’s energy policy alone could reshape the world.
“We have a chance to literally change the whole world when we change U.S. energy policy,” he said. “And that’s going to take the whole of government.”
One of the biggest surprises of the Trump administration has been the influence of senior adviser Elon Musk. Critics have raised concerns about Musk’s role, but Trump’s cabinet appears fully on board with his involvement.
During the meeting, Trump asked if any agency leaders were ‘unhappy with Elon,’ which was met with laughter and applause.
Burgum defended Musk’s presence, explaining that his tech-driven approach to efficiency and competition will force the federal government to innovate.
“In tech, there are no natural barriers. No one has a monopoly … you have to be better, faster, cheaper for your customers tomorrow than you were yesterday, or you go out of business,” Burgum said. “So competition drives innovation.”
Musk’s DOGE project is already shaking up Washington, aiming for a “major right-sizing of the federal government” a move Burgum calls “long overdue.”
As Secretary of the Interior, Burgum’s top priority is energy dominance. The Department of the Interior manages over 500 million acres of public land, including vast oil, gas, and mineral resources that could fuel American industry for decades.
Burgum highlighted Trump’s plan to reverse Biden’s failed energy policies and make America completely independent from foreign adversaries for critical resources.
“Now, we’re completely dependent on our adversaries for the critical and rare earth minerals we need for technology and for defense,” he said. “We have billions of offshore resources that we can develop safely and securely, and it will be great for our environment.”
Trump’s first cabinet meeting made one thing clear: his administration is laser-focused on action. Unlike the bloated, bureaucratic mess left behind by Biden, Trump’s team is built to cut red tape, drive results, and restore America’s strength.
With energy dominance, government efficiency, and economic revitalization at the core of its agenda, the Trump administration is ready to change the world starting now.
