Biden DOJ Secretly Subpoenaed Jim Jordan’s Phone Records for Over Two Years
DOJ targeted top Trump ally in sweeping surveillance effort as GOP slams abuse of power.

In yet another stunning revelation of political overreach, the Biden Justice Department secretly subpoenaed the personal phone records of Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio one of President Trump’s closest allies and the current Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
The subpoena, issued in 2022 and just now coming to light, demanded that Verizon hand over more than two years’ worth of Jordan’s toll records, including call logs and metadata, dating back to January 1, 2020. This was during a time when Jordan was the top Republican overseeing the very agency that subpoenaed him.
Let that sink in.
The order uncovered by Fox News Digital did not include the contents of calls or texts, but still provided prosecutors a detailed map of who Jordan was speaking with, when, and how often. This wasn’t some fringe target. This was a sitting member of Congress who led oversight of the Department of Justice and has been a fierce critic of Biden, Garland, and the weaponization of federal law enforcement.
The request came during the early days of the Arctic Frost investigation the DOJ’s sweeping Jan. 6 probe that later led to Special Counsel Jack Smith's charges against Trump. Although Smith hadn’t yet been appointed when the Jordan subpoena was issued, the prosecutor who signed it would later join Smith’s team, tying this move directly to the partisan hit job masquerading as an investigation.
Jordan now joins a growing list of Republican lawmakers caught in the DOJ’s dragnet. The Biden DOJ also pursued toll records from:
Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley
Sens. Lindsey Graham, Marsha Blackburn, Ted Cruz, and Ron Johnson
That’s not an investigation. That’s a target list.
And this happened under an administration that promised to “restore norms” and “heal the country.”
In a disturbing twist, the subpoena included a one-year gag order, signed by a D.C. magistrate judge, preventing anyone from disclosing that Jordan had been targeted. The DOJ didn’t just go after him they tried to keep it quiet.
Republicans are rightly furious. The idea that an executive branch agency can secretly subpoena the private records of members of the legislative branch especially those responsible for oversight of that agency is a direct assault on the separation of powers and the Speech or Debate Clause of the Constitution.
If Biden’s DOJ can spy on sitting lawmakers without consequence, what can’t they do?
After cooperating with the DOJ, Verizon is now working with Congress and claims it recently uncovered new information related to Jordan’s case, sharing it with him directly. Spokesman Rich Young stated:
"We are committed to restoring trust through transparency and will continue to work with Congress and the administration as they examine these issues and consider reforms."
They got caught, and now they’re scrambling.
For his part, Jack Smith insists the subpoenas were “entirely proper.” But Smith’s reputation as a political attack dog with a badge is already sealed. From targeting pro-life activists to raiding Trump’s home to now overseeing surveillance of congressional Republicans, this isn’t law enforcement it’s political warfare.
The Biden DOJ is not merely overreaching it’s obliterating boundaries. If they’ll target Jim Jordan and other GOP lawmakers behind closed doors, imagine what they’re doing to private citizens without the power to fight back.
This should terrify anyone who values liberty and the rule of law.
