DeSantis Sends Planes to Evacuate Americans from Israel

While Biden dithers, Florida’s governor steps up with jets, supplies, and leadership.

As chaos reigns in the Middle East, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is once again doing what the Biden administration refuses to leading.

DeSantis has chartered four wide-body jets to rescue nearly 1,500 Jewish-Americans stranded in Israel as war with Iran intensifies. The Americans, part of a Birthright Israel educational trip, were escorted by the Israeli Navy to Cyprus before being flown safely back to Tampa, Florida.

The swift and decisive operation comes as the Biden White House drags its feet, failing to coordinate meaningful evacuations or provide adequate support to U.S. citizens trapped abroad. Meanwhile, DeSantis didn’t wait.

  • The operation extracted approximately 1,500 Americans, many of them students, as fighting escalated.

  • Flights departed from Larnaca, Cyprus, where evacuees arrived via Israeli naval escort.

  • DeSantis previously rescued 200 Americans in 2023 and delivered over 85 pallets of emergency aid to Israel.

“We have been working with the Israeli consulate, which has been in touch with the governor’s office,” said Joy Prevor of the Broward Jewish Federation. “We are hopeful anyone who needs to get out will get out.”

And while they wait, Florida acts. DeSantis’s previous emergency efforts included thousands of medical supplies and personal essentials: bandages, ventilators, hospital gowns, children’s toys, hygiene kits, and clothing. It was a full-scale humanitarian mission organized not by Washington, but by Tallahassee.

In stark contrast to Biden’s sluggish response, DeSantis made his priorities clear “With the lack of leadership in Washington, we are stepping up to help our allies in Israel who are in need of supplies and our support.”

As rockets fall and America’s enemies grow bolder, this is the kind of action the country needs firm, focused, and fearless. DeSantis didn’t make excuses. He made calls, moved planes, and saved lives.
