Deportations Begin Immediately with No Limits on Numbers Says Tom Homan
Trump’s border czar vows to prioritize public safety and enforce immigration laws from day one.
Tom Homan, the incoming border czar for President-elect Donald Trump, has promised swift and decisive action on deportations starting the moment Trump takes office. Speaking in an interview on CNN’s “The Source” with Kaitlan Collins, Homan laid out a no-nonsense approach to addressing illegal immigration, prioritizing public safety and national security.
Highlighting the scope of the problem, Homan revealed that over 700,000 illegal aliens with criminal convictions are currently at large in the United States. “Day one will be ICE officers across the country, will be out on the streets,” he stated emphatically. The Biden administration, Homan added, had overseen a 74% reduction in deportations of criminal illegal aliens, leaving law enforcement with a backlog of dangerous individuals to remove.
Homan outlined a systematic approach to deportations under Trump’s administration:
Public safety threats: Targeting individuals convicted of serious crimes.
National security threats: Ensuring that potential risks to the country are swiftly removed.
Fugitives and repeat offenders: Addressing the 1.5 million illegal aliens who have been ordered to leave but remain in the country.
While Homan acknowledged that resources will dictate the scope of operations, he stressed the need for congressional cooperation. “We need Congress to give us money to get this done,” he said, emphasizing the necessity of funding for detention beds, transportation contracts, and other critical logistics.
To maximize efficiency, Homan proposed involving the Department of Defense as a “force multiplier.” Military personnel could take on administrative tasks, freeing up ICE agents to focus on fieldwork. Additionally, the military’s transportation capabilities—on the ground and in the air could expedite removals.
Homan dismissed the notion of imposing limits on deportations, stating, “There’s no limit.” He expressed a clear objective: enforce the law to its fullest extent with available resources. "We want to arrest every criminal, every gang member that’s here illegally, that’s a public safety threat," he said, reiterating that his team will act with urgency and precision.
With a renewed focus on prioritization, Trump’s administration is poised to restore enforcement of immigration laws in a way not seen in recent years. As Homan put it, the goal is straightforward: "Arrest as many people as we can with the resources we have."
The plan signals a dramatic shift in federal immigration policy, one that will undoubtedly spark debate but leaves no room for ambiguity. America’s borders, Homan asserts, will no longer be an open invitation for lawbreakers.
