Democrat's sexist attack on Treasury Secretary backfires during hearing
Linda Sanchez's failed attempt to play the gender card sparks backlash and public groans.

When Democrats can’t win an argument on facts, they resort to playing the victim. That was on full display during a Capitol Hill hearing on Wednesday, when Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA) accused Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent of sexism simply because he dared to correct her false economic claims.
The embarrassing moment unfolded after Sanchez blamed former President Trump’s trade policies for rising prices on everyday goods a narrative that simply doesn’t match reality. When Bessent tried to push back and cite recent data showing inflation easing, Sanchez immediately interrupted, barking, “Please don’t interrupt me. The time is mine.” After Bessent politely responded, “With pleasure,” Sanchez doubled down with the tired left-wing playbook: identity politics.
“I know I’m a woman, but please try to limit yourself to answering my questions,” she said, prompting audible groans from the audience.
The spectacle didn’t end there:
The hearing room reacted with clear frustration at Sanchez’s cheap shot, with groans echoing across the chamber.
Social media quickly erupted. Libs of TikTok slammed Sanchez for "pretending to be a victim of sexism after getting caught lying about price increases."
Ned Ryan, CEO of American Majority, sarcastically noted, “Suddenly Dems know what a woman is. Fascinating.”
Even the White House’s own “Rapid Response” account called out Sanchez, stating, “SHAMEFUL: [Sanchez] baselessly accuses [Bessent] of being sexist because he tried to correct her lie that ‘prices are rising.’ FACT: Under [President Donald Trump], Americans have seen the first overall price decline since 2020.”
In a desperate attempt to defend her claims, Sanchez cited a Fox Business article referencing a Federal Reserve Bank of New York survey. The report indicated that some businesses said they were passing along higher costs from tariffs. But that narrow data point doesn’t change the broader truth: during Trump’s presidency, real wages grew, inflation was historically low, and American families had greater purchasing power.
Under President Trump:
Inflation averaged just 1.9% far below the 40-year highs under Biden’s administration.
Real median household income hit a record $68,700 in 2019.
The Trump tax cuts fueled job growth, with unemployment hitting a 50-year low of 3.5% before the pandemic.
Sanchez’s attempt to spin the facts fell flat because Americans know better. They see the empty grocery shelves, skyrocketing gas prices, and shrinking paychecks under Democrat leadership. The contrast between Trump’s America First policies and Biden’s economic failures couldn’t be clearer.
What unfolded at this hearing wasn’t about sexism. It was about Democrats being unable to defend their disastrous economic record so they fall back on identity politics to silence legitimate debate. Thankfully, the American people aren’t buying it.
