Chip Roy Criticizes DC Mayor, Police for Neglecting Calls to Save ‘DC Five’ Aborted Baby Bodies
Despite Congressional concerns and legal implications, D.C. officials continue to stonewall efforts to investigate the "DC Five."
The District of Columbia is refusing to provide Congress with answers regarding the deaths of five premature-sized babies, known as the "DC Five," whose remains were discovered at a D.C. abortion clinic in 2022. Republican Rep. Chip Roy (TX) is leading the charge, demanding action and transparency, but so far, the city's leadership, including Attorney General Merrick Garland, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith, are stonewalling requests to preserve the bodies as potential evidence.
Rep. Roy's frustrations stem from the fact that these babies were allegedly aborted at the Washington Surgi-Clinic by abortionist Cesare Santangelo. The remains have been in the custody of the D.C. medical examiner for over two years, yet authorities show no signs of investigating whether these abortions violated federal laws like the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act or the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act.
Stonewalling from D.C. Officials: Despite Roy’s repeated requests, D.C. leaders have refused to confirm whether the bodies are being preserved or might be destroyed.
Potential Violation of Federal Law: Pro-life advocates believe the babies were victims of illegal abortion practices, yet the lack of investigation from D.C. officials suggests they have little interest in uncovering the truth.
Future Investigations at Risk: In his letter, Roy emphasized that destroying these remains would seriously hamper future investigations and potential legal accountability for the deaths of these children.
Back in February, the D.C. Medical Examiner assured pro-life activists that the baby bodies would not be disposed of after concerns mounted that the Department of Justice had greenlit their destruction. However, this reassurance was fleeting, with no confirmation since. Roy’s most recent letter renews his request for assurance that the bodies will be preserved, but D.C. officials have remained silent.
Roy, who serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government, is determined to ensure these babies receive justice, regardless of the administration in power. "These children deserve justice," Roy wrote, urging Garland, Bowser, and Smith to respond by October 24.
The abortion industry’s recklessness has long been protected by weak enforcement of existing federal laws, but this case stands out. The "DC Five" could be the catalyst for greater accountability, but only if D.C. authorities stop their obstruction and allow for proper investigation.
It’s clear that under current Democratic leadership, justice is being selectively applied. As pro-life activist Lauren Handy sits in jail for peacefully protesting abortion under trumped-up charges, the real crimes the deaths of these babies are being ignored. Handy’s attorney, Martin Cannon, rightly pointed out that Handy’s conviction was part of the Biden administration's broader agenda to punish peaceful activists while ignoring the far more serious atrocities happening within abortion clinics.
The question remains: will D.C. finally step up and provide the transparency this situation demands, or will they continue to protect the abortion industry at all costs?
