Cruz Slams Blinken Over Biden’s Foreign Policy Disasters

Senator Ted Cruz Holds Biden Administration Accountable for Global Turmoil

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) did not hold back during a fiery Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, lambasting Secretary of State Antony Blinken for what he described as the Biden administration's catastrophic foreign policy failures.

  • Cruz highlighted the alarming state of global affairs, pointing out that the Biden administration's tenure has seen the eruption of two major conflicts: the worst war in Europe since World War II and the most significant conflict in the Middle East in 50 years.

  • Cruz accused the administration of weakening U.S. allies and emboldening adversaries, citing specific instances where he believes U.S. policies have been detrimental to its interests and those of its allies.

  • A particularly contentious point was the administration’s handling of relations with Israel, including reports suggesting that the U.S. was urging Israel to hold back its military efforts against Hamas, which Blinken denied.

Cruz did not mince words, stating, “You have presided over the worst foreign policy disaster of modern times.” He emphasized that the world was more stable and peaceful before Biden took office, attributing the current chaos to the administration's “consistent weakness.”

Cruz also grilled Blinken on the administration's response to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. A recent report from The Washington Post alleged that the U.S. was attempting to dissuade Israel from a full-scale invasion of Rafah by offering sensitive intelligence. Blinken refuted the claim, asserting that the administration has not withheld vital information from Israel.

Cruz further challenged Blinken by recalling a series of tweets from the State Department and Blinken himself that suggested a reluctance to support Israel's right to defend itself. Cruz said, “[Israel is] quite aware you disagree with their plan to kill the Hamas terrorists because you and the president have vocally said it.” He continued, “From the very beginning, the Biden administration has consistently at every stage told Israel, ‘do not kill the terrorists.’”

The hearing also touched on the administration's policies towards Iran. Cruz accused the Biden administration of withholding weapons from Israel while easing sanctions on Iran, enabling the regime to gain tens of billions of dollars through oil revenue. This, he argued, has further destabilized the region and undermined U.S. interests.

The tension between Cruz and Blinken was palpable, reflecting the broader dissatisfaction with Biden's foreign policy among many Republicans. As the 2024 presidential election approaches, these issues are likely to remain at the forefront of political debate.
