Senator Cruz Rebukes CNN’s Dana Bash and Kamala Harris for Alleged 'Propaganda' Plot
Cruz calls out Harris for needing VP pick as "safety blanket" during interview.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) didn’t hold back this week in his criticism of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and CNN’s Dana Bash, accusing them of staging a "propaganda" interview. The controversy centers around Harris's insistence that her vice-presidential running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, be present during what Cruz derided as a “softball” interview.
Key points from Cruz's critique include:
Cruz called out the unusual setup, questioning why Harris would need Walz present during an interview, labeling it as a sign of weakness.
The senator also accused CNN of pre-taping and potentially editing the interview to remove any embarrassing moments or mistakes by Harris.
Cruz emphasized that if Bash fails to act like a genuine journalist during the interview, she risks being seen as nothing more than a "spokesperson" for the Harris campaign.
Speaking on his "Verdict" podcast, Cruz didn't mince words. "It is astonishing that the interview is not Kamala Harris, but it’s Kamala Harris and Tim Walz," he said. "Presumably, Tim Walz is sitting there so if Kamala is screwing up, Tim Walz can step in and try to bail her out." Cruz went on to express disbelief at the idea of a presidential candidate needing such a "safety blanket" during an interview, calling it "bizarre."
Cruz also took aim at CNN for opting to pre-tape the interview rather than airing it live. He speculated that the network would edit out any "word salad" moments or gaffes from Harris, ensuring a polished final product. "I believe, and I think many Americans believe, CNN is going to edit it so if and when Kamala says things that are dumb... they’ll cut it right out," Cruz asserted.
The senator’s critique extended to Bash herself, warning that if she doesn’t challenge Harris effectively during the interview, she risks being viewed as “a laughingstock,” “a patsy,” or even "a total stooge."
As the 2024 election heats up, Cruz’s comments reflect growing Republican frustration with what they perceive as media bias and the protective bubble surrounding Democratic candidates. Whether the interview will live up to these expectations remains to be seen, but the spotlight is certainly on CNN and Harris as they navigate this critical moment.
