Coldplay’s Chris Martin Jokes About Kiss Cam Scandal At First Show Since Viral Fiasco
The frontman gave fans a playful warning while sidestepping the controversy that cost a tech CEO his job.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin broke his silence albeit indirectly on the band’s now-infamous kiss cam incident during the group’s first concert since the viral debacle. Performing in Madison, Wisconsin, on Saturday night, Martin gave fans a lighthearted warning before turning the cameras on the crowd.
“We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd,” Martin said with a grin, prompting laughter and cheers. “How we’re going to do that is we’re going to use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen. So please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now.”
While Martin didn’t mention the kiss cam fiasco outright, fans immediately connected his comments to the July 16 show in Foxborough, Massachusetts, where Astronomer CEO Andy Byron was caught on camera embracing a company executive in a moment that quickly went viral. The pair’s awkward reaction after realizing they were on the stadium screen fueled speculation, which led to corporate fallout.
The incident escalated quickly:
Byron, who was married, stepped down from his CEO role after Astronomer’s board launched an internal investigation.
Coldplay frontman Martin joked at the time of the incident, “Uh oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
Astronomer confirmed Byron’s resignation, citing a failure to uphold company standards of “conduct and accountability.”
The tech company issued a statement saying, “Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted.” Co-founder Pete DeJoy is now serving as interim CEO while a search for a new executive is underway.
Coldplay itself has remained largely quiet about the episode, opting not to address the controversy on social media. A recent photo montage from the Foxborough concert on the band’s Instagram page which racked up over 1.2 million likes notably skipped over the kiss cam moment. Fans in the comments, however, have not let it go. “Nice, did anything else happen?” one sarcastic comment read.
For now, Martin seems to be moving on with humor and focusing on the music. Fans in Madison erupted with laughter at his playful nod to the viral moment, proving that even a scandal can’t slow down Coldplay’s momentum on their world tour.
