Hillary Clinton Defends Kamala Harris, Claims ‘Double Standard’ Over Policy Demands

Clinton Suggests Voters Are Unfairly Criticizing Harris for Not Explaining Her Positions.

Hillary Clinton, the twice-failed Democratic presidential candidate, sparked controversy this week by defending Vice President Kamala Harris from critics who say she has been evasive about her policy positions. In an interview on the “On with Kara Swisher” podcast, Clinton argued that Harris faces a "double standard" by being pressured to explain her policies, particularly as she is now the Democratic Party's presidential nominee.

Clinton’s remarks come after weeks of frustration from voters and the media alike, as Harris delayed releasing her policy platform. Even now, many argue that Harris' platform remains vague on key issues. However, Clinton dismissed those concerns, claiming, “She does not have to do it, Kara. In fact, she’s put out policies on her campaign website. Anybody who’s truly interested can go and read about them.” Clinton seemed to suggest that Harris has already done enough to address policy questions.

Yet, Harris’ policy plans are notably short on details, leaving many Americans wondering where she stands on critical issues like the economy, immigration, and foreign policy. Despite this, Clinton claimed Harris has "plans about what to do," although those plans remain unclear to most voters.

Clinton’s suggestion that Harris is being held to an unfair standard implies that the pressure on her to provide clear policy proposals is rooted in something other than accountability. “It’s a double standard,” Clinton insisted. “They’re still getting to know her. But also because they’re still grappling with the idea like, ‘Oh, am I really going to vote for a woman to be president and commander in chief?’”

Clinton's comments highlight a troubling trend among Democrats a refusal to engage with voters who demand clarity on policy. Rather than addressing concerns about Harris’ evasiveness, Clinton frames these legitimate questions as part of a broader issue related to sexism, particularly toward "white women" voters. But this deflection does little to inspire confidence in a candidate who has spent months avoiding the press and the tough questions that come with running for the highest office in the land.

Voters deserve answers. They have every right to demand that those vying for the presidency explain how they will address the major challenges facing the country. Harris’ reluctance to offer specifics, combined with Clinton’s dismissive tone, only fuels further skepticism.

As we approach the 2024 election, voters need more than vague references to “plans.” They deserve transparency and leadership from anyone seeking the presidency. Deflecting criticism as a “double standard” won’t cut it. The stakes are too high.
