China Warns Citizens Against U.S. Travel Amid Escalating Trade War
Beijing targets American tourism as trade war with Trump escalates into full economic battle.

China just fired another shot in the ongoing trade war but this time, it’s targeting the American tourism industry. On Wednesday, the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued a travel advisory warning its citizens about visiting the United States, citing “deterioration of China-U.S. economic and trade relations and the domestic security situation in the United States.” While it’s the usual boilerplate language from a communist regime, the intent is clear: hurt the U.S. where it counts in the wallet.
Chinese tourism and education spending contributed over $20 billion to the U.S. economy in 2023. That’s no small chunk of change, especially when liberal cities like San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles have already seen massive declines in tourism revenue due to crime, homelessness, and failed leadership.
Now, with China urging its citizens to stay away, cities and universities that rely heavily on foreign spending could be in for an even ruder awakening.
This warning is a repeat move from Beijing the last time they issued a similar advisory was during President Trump’s first term, when he refused to play footsie with their communist leadership and launched the original America First trade push.
But the stakes are even higher now.
President Trump recently enacted a 104% total tariff on Chinese goods, up from an initial 50%, under his “Liberation Day” policy aimed at restoring American manufacturing dominance.
In retaliation, China imposed an 84% tariff on U.S. goods, threatening American farmers, small businesses, and now, tourism.
Despite the tit-for-tat, Trump says China “wants to make a deal badly” but simply doesn’t know how to begin. Translation? They’re losing and they know it.
The White House made it clear this week: “It was a mistake for China to retaliate.” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent didn’t mince words either, calling China “the worst offenders” in the global economy and making it clear that any future trade agreements will be made with America’s allies first not with Beijing.
That means new deals with countries like Japan and South Korea are already in the pipeline, and China’s influence is shrinking fast.
Meanwhile, American consumers are beginning to wake up to the long-term cost of outsourcing manufacturing and trade leverage to a regime that locks up political dissidents and controls its people with an iron fist.
Let’s not forget under Biden, China was treated like a “strategic competitor” the polite D.C. code for letting them get away with everything. Under Trump, they’re being treated like what they are: a hostile economic adversary.
If China wants to stop sending tourists to the U.S., so be it. America has weathered worse. But this latest move proves one thing Trump’s tariffs are working, and Beijing is feeling the heat.
Pass this along to anyone who still thinks Biden’s cozy diplomacy works. The only language China understands is strength and Trump is finally speaking it. Share this article or subscribe to our newsletter for updates.
