China’s Growing Presence In The Bahamas Threatens US National Security
As Biden sleeps, China builds just 50 miles from Florida under the guise of "development."

While the Biden administration continues to bumble its way through foreign policy, China is methodically establishing a billion-dollar footprint just 50 miles off the coast of Florida posing a serious threat to U.S. national security.
Retired Rear Adm. Peter Brown, former Homeland Security advisor to President Donald Trump, sounded the alarm about Beijing’s growing influence in the Bahamas. China’s so-called "development projects" are in reality dual-use infrastructure that could easily be leveraged for intelligence gathering and even military operations against the United States.
Key concerns raised by Brown include:
The Chinese-controlled British Colonial Hotel sits directly across from the U.S. Embassy in Nassau, creating prime conditions for electronic surveillance of American diplomatic activity.
China has poured over $3 billion into ports, bridges, and resort developments across the Bahamas, including the massive mega-port in Freeport, raising fears about future military logistics operations.
The Bahamas are located near critical U.S. naval and space operations, including Autech, a secretive Navy underwater testing facility, and beneath key space launch trajectories.
This expansion didn't happen overnight. After Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas in 2019, China quickly stepped in with "aid" a move that then-Senator Marco Rubio correctly warned was a Trojan horse to plant Beijing’s flag dangerously close to American shores.
And yet, Biden’s State Department remains mostly silent as China positions itself to monitor U.S. submarine operations, space launches, and diplomatic missions—all while disguising these activities as harmless business investments.
The numbers tell the story:
China EXIM Bank has funneled over $54 million into highways and financed nearly $3 billion in luxury resort projects.
China's grants, including $40 million for a national stadium, have bought goodwill at the highest levels of Bahamian government.
Tourism and trade with the U.S. are crucial for the Bahamas’ economy, but with Biden asleep at the wheel, Beijing is exploiting the vacuum.
Brown emphasized that a strong U.S.-Bahamas relationship is critical to stopping China's advances. "If we're not the Bahamas' best friend, somebody else will be and we don't want that somebody to be China," he warned.
The stakes could not be higher. Allowing China to gain a foothold this close to the American mainland is reckless and shortsighted. President Trump understood the importance of strategic alliances and defending U.S. interests abroad something the current administration seems all too eager to ignore.
