Charlamagne Tha God Questions Biden’s Pivot from ‘Existential Threat’ to Trump Meeting
Radio host calls out political hypocrisy after Trump’s White House visit.
Radio host Charlamagne Tha God didn’t hold back on Thursday as he dissected President Joe Biden’s surprising cordiality during his White House meeting with President-elect Donald Trump. On his morning broadcast, Charlamagne admitted he was baffled by Biden’s sudden shift in tone, recalling that the president and his party had been branding Trump as an "existential threat to democracy" and a “fascist” just days prior.
“I just don’t understand the White House visit,” Charlamagne said, referencing the meeting that marked Trump’s return to the Oval Office. “Granted, I’m glad there’s a peaceful transition of power, but what happened to the threat of democracy talk? What happened to the fascist talk?”
Charlamagne emphasized that his confusion wasn’t about his own views he has called Trump similar names in the past but rather about the weight of such accusations coming from the sitting president. “When they say it, it holds way more weight than me. I’m just trying to figure out, how do you go from ‘He’s an existential threat to democracy’ to ‘Welcome back’?”
Questioning Political Norms
Charlamagne’s cohost, DJ Envy, pointed out that Biden seemed particularly cheerful during the meeting, even “cheesing” for the cameras. Charlamagne acknowledged that Biden might be adhering to the political “norms” of peaceful transitions, but he couldn’t shake the inconsistency.
The popular host also revisited remarks he made last week, questioning why Democrats had suddenly abandoned their warnings about Trump’s threat to democracy. “Don’t y’all find it strange that now that he’s won, they’re not calling him a threat to democracy? They’re not calling him a fascist. On Monday, they was just calling him that,” he said. “It just makes you wonder how much of it did they really believe, or how much of it was just politics.”
A Moment of Clarity or Hypocrisy?
Charlamagne’s critique shines a spotlight on the broader hypocrisy in modern politics. If Biden and his allies truly viewed Trump as a grave threat, their sudden embrace of civility raises questions about whether those attacks were ever sincere or simply a strategy to galvanize their base.
By the end of his segment, Charlamagne appeared exasperated, quipping, “I’m gonna stop minding white people’s business.”
His remarks echo the skepticism of many Americans who watched the dramatic shift from campaign rhetoric to White House pleasantries. The same Democrats who framed Trump’s presidency as an existential danger now seem content to engage with him as a political peer a stark contrast that leaves many wondering what to believe.
