Carrie Underwood Shrugs Off Boos After Trump Inauguration Performance
Country star says criticism won’t shake her as backlash continues following her appearance at President Trump’s inauguration.

Country music superstar Carrie Underwood is making it clear she’s not losing sleep over the criticism coming her way.
The Grammy-winning singer and former American Idol champion has been getting booed during recent appearances on the show but she says the reaction doesn’t bother her at all. In fact, she appears to be embracing it.
“You guys are gonna boo me. You’re gonna boo me,” Underwood joked to the audience during a recent episode. “It’s coming. Bring it on. I love it! Your boos are feeding me.”
Later, she doubled down on social media.
“Boo me. I don’t care,” she wrote on X alongside a laughing emoji.
The backlash seems to trace back to one major moment earlier this year: Underwood’s decision to perform “America the Beautiful” at President Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony in January.
While many fans praised the performance as a patriotic gesture, others reacted with anger simply because it was tied to Trump’s return to the White House.
The controversy highlights the increasingly politicized environment surrounding celebrities and entertainers in America today.
Underwood, now 42, rose to fame after winning American Idol in 2005 and has since become one of the most successful artists in country music history. Over the course of her career, she has sold more than 85 million records worldwide and earned multiple Grammy Awards, making her one of the top-selling female country artists of all time.
Yet despite her massive fan base, some critics have tried to frame her inauguration performance as a political endorsement.
Underwood herself has largely avoided engaging in partisan politics publicly.
Ahead of the inauguration earlier this year, she explained that she saw the performance as a moment of national unity rather than a political statement.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration,” Underwood said at the time. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together.”
Still, the backlash has continued in certain corners of the entertainment world.
During one recent episode of American Idol, Underwood jokingly pointed out that she seemed to be the only judge receiving boos from the crowd.
Turning to fellow judge Luke Bryan, she asked with a smile, “Why don’t they boo you?”
Bryan responded with humor of his own: “I don’t know, I’m trying to get booed.”
Despite the noise from critics, many fans have rallied behind the singer online.
Supporters flooded her social media posts with messages praising her for standing firm and refusing to bow to pressure from critics.
One supporter wrote that for every boo she receives, thousands more fans are cheering her on.
Others praised Underwood as a role model who refused to compromise her values simply to avoid criticism.
Of course, not all reactions have been positive. Some detractors openly admitted that their frustration stemmed from her association with Trump.
But even among critics, there’s disagreement about the real cause of the boos.
Some viewers believe the reaction could simply be tied to the tough feedback Underwood occasionally gives contestants as a judge something that has always drawn mixed reactions from audiences on talent competitions.
Either way, Underwood appears unfazed.
After two decades in the spotlight, the country star seems to have learned a simple lesson about fame in today’s culture: if you stand for something, someone is going to complain.
For now, she’s making it clear she isn’t backing down and she’s not about to let a few boos drown out the millions of fans who continue to support her.
