10 Dead in Canadian School Massacre as Police Refuse to Confirm Shooter’s Identity

Shooter described as “gun person in a dress” in one of Canada’s deadliest attacks.

Ten people are dead, 25 more injured, and an entire rural community is in mourning after one of the deadliest mass shootings in Canadian history with officials refusing to say who pulled the trigger.

The massacre unfolded Tuesday at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in northeastern British Columbia, a small-town school serving just under 200 students in grades 7–12. Seven victims were killed on campus, including one who died en route to the hospital. Two more bodies were discovered at a nearby home, and the shooter reportedly died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Law enforcement quickly confirmed key facts: the scale of the tragedy, the death toll, and even the shooter’s clothing. But when it came to identifying the individual responsible, Canadian officials chose silence.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) declined to confirm even the sex of the shooter, referring to the suspect only as a “gun person.”

“We are unable to confirm identity publicly at this time,” RCMP spokeswoman Vanessa Munn told reporters. “Updates will be provided as information becomes available.”

Initial reports described the attacker as having brown hair and wearing a dress a description that has fueled public concern and further questions about the RCMP’s evasive language and politically correct handling of the situation.

Six victims died on school grounds. A seventh died in transit. Two more were airlifted in critical condition, and more than two dozen others suffered minor injuries.

Police are investigating the nearby home where the additional bodies were found as part of the same crime scene, but have not elaborated on the connection.

“We may struggle to determine the ‘why,’” said North District Commander Ken Floyd. “But we will try our best to determine what transpired.”

While authorities avoid basic facts, grieving families and a stunned nation are left with painful silence where answers should be.

This tragedy now ranks among Canada’s deadliest mass shootings, behind only a handful of historical incidents. Yet media coverage and official statements have been carefully sanitized, with vague terms like “gun person” replacing clear descriptions.

“I will know every victim,” said Tumbler Ridge Mayor Darryl Krakowka, who has lived in the town of 2,400 for nearly two decades. “I don’t call them residents. I call them family.”

Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a statement of condolence, but offered no policy details, motives, or commitments to transparency.

“I join Canadians in grieving with those whose lives have been changed irreversibly today,” Carney said.

Meanwhile, questions continue to mount:

  • Why are Canadian authorities refusing to release the shooter’s name or gender?

  • Why is the media parroting the term “gun person” instead of using accurate descriptors?

  • What exactly motivated the shooter and what are officials afraid to admit?

In the absence of answers, the public is left to wonder whether political sensitivity is taking priority over the truth, even in the wake of a tragedy that has rocked a small town and shaken a nation.

This story is developing. More details will follow as officials release further information.
