Canadian Liberal MP Calls Trump’s 51st State Proposal an ‘Act of War’
Hyperbolic Canadian lawmaker lashes out as Trump highlights economic, military advantages of U.S. alliance.

Canadian liberal lawmaker Charlie Angus is throwing a tantrum on the world stage after President Donald Trump floated the idea that Canada would be better off joining the United States as the 51st state. Angus, in an interview with the far-left MeidasTouch Network, went so far as to label Trump’s suggestion “an act of war.”
Yes, you read that right a peaceful, economic argument from Trump is being described as warfare by a politician whose own country has a military force less than 5% the size of America’s. Canada's entire active military stands at around 70,000 personnel, compared to the U.S.'s 1.3 million.
Angus whined that Trump was attempting to “rip up trade agreements” and “break a country,” and has since embarked on what he calls an “elbows up resistance tour” across Canada’s industrial belt. He claims Canadians are now boycotting American businesses and travel in response, and he even had the audacity to suggest the U.S. is a “weaker force” globally an ironic statement considering Trump’s leadership has revived American economic and military strength.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio took a far more measured approach, acknowledging the disagreement while noting Trump’s reasoning “The President has made his argument as to why he thinks Canada would be better off joining the United States for economic purposes. There’s a disagreement between the President’s position and the position of the Canadian government. I don’t think that’s a mystery.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reaffirmed the administration's position last week “Canada has always been an ally. But Canadians would be served better economically, militarily if they were to become the 51st state of America.”
The reality is simple Trump is focused on strengthening America and its allies, offering realistic, beneficial partnerships. What’s clear is that liberal politicians like Angus prefer virtue signaling over facts, choosing dramatic language over substantive dialogue.
While Angus throws around phrases like “act of war,” the truth is that Trump’s America continues to be the world's leader economically, militarily, and diplomatically.
