Donalds: Republicans Will Deport Millions of Illegal Immigrants If They Win
Major changes to border security and immigration policies promised by Rep. Byron Donalds
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) stated over the weekend that a Republican-controlled federal government in 2024 would implement significant changes to border security and address the influx of illegal aliens in the U.S.
During a Sunday interview on “Fox News Sunday” with Shannon Bream, Donalds outlined the promises Republicans could make to the American people if they gain control in November.
Key points from Donalds' remarks:
Restoration of Trump-Era Policies
Donalds emphasized that President Trump had successfully secured the border during his tenure. He criticized President Joe Biden's decision to dismantle these policies, which included ending "catch-and-release" and reinstating the "Remain in Mexico" policy.
Mass Deportations
Donalds highlighted the necessity of deporting millions of illegal immigrants, stating, “We will have to deport millions of people who should not be here because our cities and states simply cannot handle the flow of all these illegal migrants.” He cited recent security breaches, such as Jordanian nationals attempting to infiltrate Quantico and incidents at the California border.Legislative Action
Donalds mentioned the importance of passing comprehensive immigration reform through Congress. He pointed to H.R. 2 as a key piece of legislation that, with sufficient support, could provide the president with greater authority to secure the nation.
Donalds' statements come amid growing concerns about border security and the impacts of illegal immigration on local communities. Recent data shows a significant increase in illegal border crossings since the beginning of Biden's administration, exacerbating the strain on border states.
Statistics to consider:
According to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), there were over 2 million encounters with illegal immigrants at the southern border in 2023, a record high.
A study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimated the cost of illegal immigration to U.S. taxpayers at approximately $132 billion annually.
Donalds concluded by affirming that under President Trump's leadership, the U.S. would return to policies that prioritize national security and uphold immigration laws. He stressed the urgency of these measures, stating, “It needs to be done.”
