Critics Mock Buttigieg for Linking Biden’s Accomplishments to Hoover Dam

Critics slam Transportation Secretary for outlandish comparison amid growing dissatisfaction.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has found himself at the center of a storm of ridicule after comparing the Biden administration’s infrastructure achievements to the construction of the Hoover Dam. The comment, made in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), quickly sparked backlash as critics pointed out the absurdity of his comparison.

Buttigieg, who served as mayor of South Bend, Indiana before his appointment as Secretary, seemed to believe that a century from now, Americans would view the Biden administration’s infrastructure push as just as monumental as the Hoover Dam one of the most iconic and complex public works projects in American history.

“I’m confident that a century from now, future Americans will look back on the work we’ve done—much as we look at the Hoover Dam and see how the Biden-Harris Administration’s ‘Big Deal’ for infrastructure made big things possible,” Buttigieg said.

In the video, Buttigieg also claimed the administration had solved supply chain issues and “created millions of jobs.” However, his assertion that these jobs were the result of new positions rather than people simply returning to work after the pandemic was quickly debunked, and many jobs reports from the past year have been revised downward.

The Backlash Was Swift:

  • Mollie Hemingway of The Federalist responded bluntly: “Sir, are you high?”

  • John Hawkins humorously pointed out, “If you clowns had been in charge of building the Hoover Dam, it would have cost 400 billion dollars and we wouldn’t have started building it yet.”

  • Chad Felix Greene criticized the administration’s tendency to boast: “The entire theme of this administration has been boasting of being the most incredible, history-making, innovative and celebrated administration of all time, despite no one being able to name a single thing they’ve done.”

  • Steven L. Miller offered a more biting suggestion: “Maybe focus on trying to build one single EV charging station, Peter.”

  • Phil Kerpen joked about the administration’s electric vehicle initiative: “Those 7 federal charging stations will live on forever!”

  • Jerry Dunleavy added: “When literally all of us are dead and therefore none of you will be around to disprove my claim here, I pinky swear that these four disastrous years will ackshually be looked upon fondly.”

Buttigieg’s comments come at a time when many Americans are growing frustrated with the Biden administration’s handling of critical issues, from inflation to border security to energy policy. His comparison to the Hoover Dam a project that took years to build and revolutionized the American Southwest rings hollow when weighed against the administration’s lackluster record.

While the Biden administration may boast about its so-called “Big Deal,” the reality is that many of its claims do not stand up to scrutiny, and Buttigieg’s attempt to place them on the same level as the Hoover Dam only invites mockery.
