Pete Buttigieg Reportedly Weighing U.S. Senate Run

Failed transportation secretary eyes Senate seat as Democrats scramble for 2026.

Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend and Biden’s disastrous Transportation Secretary, is reportedly considering a run for the U.S. Senate in Michigan after Democrat Sen. Gary Peters announced he will not seek re-election in 2026.

With Peters stepping down, Michigan’s Senate race is wide open.

  • Buttigieg, a recent Michigan transplant, is exploring a run despite his record of failure.

  • Democrats had expected Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to be a contender, but she is likely setting her sights on a 2028 presidential run.

  • Republicans have a prime opportunity to flip this seat and end the Democrat stronghold in Michigan.

Peters’ surprise retirement follows the recent exit of fellow Michigan Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow, leaving the party scrambling to maintain control. Republicans, eager to break a losing streak in Michigan Senate races that dates back to 1994, now have a golden opportunity to turn the state red.

The thought of Buttigieg representing Michigan in the Senate should raise alarms for voters. As Transportation Secretary, he failed at every turn:

  • He ignored the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment for weeks, prioritizing diversity initiatives over real crisis management.

  • His handling of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore was another embarrassment, showcasing his incompetence in addressing infrastructure disasters.

  • Under his watch, supply chain crises spiraled out of control, further crippling the economy.

Despite these glaring failures, Democratic operatives are pushing Buttigieg as a viable candidate, with one strategist claiming, “Pete already has a national network.” Unfortunately for Michigan, that network consists of wealthy coastal elites and woke activists not the hard-working Americans who have suffered under his policies.

The 2026 midterms present a clear opportunity for Republicans to take back the Senate. Michigan is a battleground state, and after witnessing the failures of Biden, Whitmer, and Buttigieg, voters may finally be ready for real leadership.

If Republicans put forth a strong candidate, this could be the moment Michigan finally breaks free from decades of Democrat control. The last thing the state needs is another incompetent liberal politician failing upward.
