FBI Offers $50K Bounty as Brown University Shooter Remains at Large

Two students dead, including a GOP club leader, as officials scramble to contain fallout from politically and racially charged massacre.

The FBI and Providence Police have released new surveillance footage and offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect responsible for the deadly mass shooting at Brown University on December 13th. The killer remains on the loose and so far, officials have failed to answer serious questions about how this was allowed to happen on an elite Ivy League campus.

Two students were murdered and nine others wounded when a masked gunman stormed into a classroom in Brown’s engineering department on Saturday afternoon. The victims included Ella Cook, a student from Alabama who served as vice president of Brown University’s Republican Club, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek freshman who had just begun his academic journey in the U.S.

Authorities initially detained a person of interest on Sunday, but released him hours later, saying he was not responsible for the attack. Now, after a frenzied weekend of confusion, the FBI has joined the manhunt and is offering a major reward to the public.

“The FBI and Providence Police are releasing new images of a person of interest in the mass shooting,” the bureau’s Boston office posted on X. “A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the individual.”

Here’s what we know so far:

  • The person of interest is seen in surveillance footage wearing black clothing and a mask, captured near the engineering building just before the shooting.

  • No credible threat has been issued since the initial attack, according to Providence Mayor Brett Smiley but many residents and students remain skeptical, given that the suspect has not been found.

  • Police presence has been increased throughout Providence and at Brown University, but critics argue that’s little comfort when a mass murderer is still at large.

The most chilling aspect of this tragedy isn’t just the cold-blooded killing it’s the unsettling possibility that ideology or identity may have played a role in the selection of the victims.

Ella Cook, a conservative campus leader from the South, had previously spoken out about the hostile political climate for right-leaning students at Ivy League schools. Her death, and the silence from most mainstream outlets about her political affiliation, is already raising eyebrows.

And Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, a foreign student from Uzbekistan, represented everything the American academic system prides itself on until his life was stolen in a country that promises safety but has failed to deliver.

Despite this, there’s been little to no outrage from university officials or federal politicians, many of whom were quick to speak up on other campus incidents involving microaggressions or controversial flyers.

Now, with two students dead and no suspect in custody, the question isn’t just who pulled the trigger it’s why this happened, and why so many are afraid to talk about it.

Was this politically motivated? Was this an anti-immigrant act? Was Ella Cook targeted because she was a young conservative? Until law enforcement answers these questions, speculation will grow, and with it, public distrust in the system that’s supposed to protect students not silence uncomfortable truths.

In the meantime, one fact remains: an American university was turned into a war zone, and the suspect has vanished into thin air.

If you have any information related to the individual seen in the surveillance video, contact the Providence Police Department or your local FBI office.
