Brazil Raids Bolsonaro Home And Forces Ankle Monitor After Trump Condemns Witch Hunt

The leftist Brazilian government ramps up its attack on conservative leader Jair Bolsonaro amid growing support from Donald Trump.

The political persecution of conservative leaders isn’t limited to the United States. In Brazil, the Supreme Court is targeting former President Jair Bolsonaro with tactics that look eerily similar to the political witch hunts against Donald Trump. On Friday, federal police raided Bolsonaro’s home under orders from Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who also demanded that the 70-year-old conservative icon wear an ankle monitor.

Bolsonaro, who continues to lead in the polls despite relentless attacks from Brazil’s leftist government, called the ruling “supreme humiliation” and blasted Moraes as a “dictator.” He is accused of plotting a so-called coup following his 2022 election loss to socialist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva an allegation Bolsonaro flatly denies. Millions of Brazilians still view him as the country’s true leader, standing firm against the radical left agenda that has gripped Brazil.

The escalation comes just days after former U.S. President Donald Trump spoke out forcefully in defense of Bolsonaro. In a fiery letter to Lula, Trump condemned the persecution:

  • “The way that Brazil has treated former President Bolsonaro, a Highly Respected Leader throughout the World during his Term, including by the United States, is an international disgrace,” Trump said.

  • He called the trial a “Witch Hunt” and demanded that it end “IMMEDIATELY!”

  • Trump also imposed a 50% tariff on Brazil, citing its “insidious attacks on Free Elections, and the fundamental Free Speech Rights of Americans.”

Justice Moraes even referenced Trump’s tariffs in his ruling, accusing the former U.S. president of attempting to create an “economic crisis” in Brazil to undermine its judicial system a wild claim that underscores the deep political entanglement between Lula’s government and its allies in the judiciary.

Bolsonaro believes the timing of the raid and ankle monitor order is no coincidence. “I feel supreme humiliation,” Bolsonaro told Reuters. “I am 70 years old, I was president of the republic for four years.” He insists he has no plans to flee the country and remains determined to fight the politically motivated charges.

This is not the first time Brazil’s Supreme Court has acted as a political weapon against conservatives. Since Lula’s return to power, the leftist government has tightened its grip on speech, media, and opposition voices. According to recent polling, over 40% of Brazilians believe their country is heading in the wrong direction under Lula’s leadership a sharp rise from a year ago.

Trump’s defense of Bolsonaro highlights the growing alliance between conservative leaders worldwide who refuse to bow to globalist and socialist agendas. Both men are fighting legal battles driven by political opponents desperate to silence them.
