Blumenthal Warns of Public Shock Over Secret Service's Failure to Protect Trump
Senate investigators uncover alarming lapses in Trump's security during assassination attempt.
Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) made startling claims on Thursday, revealing that Americans will be "shocked" by serious failures of the Secret Service in protecting former President Donald Trump during a July 2024 assassination attempt. The would-be assassin targeted Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, and according to Blumenthal, the Senate's investigation has uncovered significant security lapses that could have cost Trump his life.
Following a closed-door meeting with Acting U.S. Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, Blumenthal addressed reporters, saying, "I think the American people are going to be shocked, astonished, and appalled by what we will report to them about the failures by the Secret Service in this assassination attempt on the former president."
Blumenthal, a staunch opponent of Trump, expressed deep concerns about how both the Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) handled the aftermath. He criticized DHS for not being forthcoming with the investigation, noting that their lack of transparency has only exacerbated the situation. "They ought to be appalled and astonished by the failure of the Department of Homeland Security to be more forthcoming," Blumenthal added.
Key points raised by Blumenthal:
Senate investigators have uncovered significant "lapses and lags" in the protection of Trump during the July 13 assassination attempt.
The Secret Service failed to communicate effectively on the day of the incident, leading to a breakdown in security measures.
DHS has been slow in cooperating with the investigation, refusing to provide crucial documents related to the security failures.
While Blumenthal did not disclose the specifics of the newly uncovered information, he assured the public that the final report will reveal the full extent of the Secret Service’s shortcomings, as well as the failure of DHS to properly address these issues.
As the investigation continues, many are left questioning the level of protection that former and current leaders are receiving. With security breaches this glaring, the question remains: How did the Secret Service allow such a dangerous situation to unfold, and what will be done to prevent future lapses?
