At National Prayer Service, Bishop Pleads with Trump for Mercy on Trans Youth and Illegal Immigrants

The Episcopal bishop’s plea follows Trump’s decisive actions on immigration and gender ideology.

Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde took center stage at the National Prayer Service to deliver a pointed message to President Donald Trump, urging him to “have mercy” on transgender children and illegal aliens. The plea comes on the heels of a series of Trump administration executive orders aimed at curbing far-left gender ideologies and strengthening border security.

“In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy on the people in our country who are scared now,” Budde said, addressing the president directly. She expressed concern for transgender children, whom she claimed “fear for their lives,” as well as illegal aliens working in various industries across America.

Budde also highlighted the contributions of undocumented immigrants, stating, “The vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches.”

The bishop’s remarks further extended to families of illegal aliens, pleading for Trump to consider the plight of children fearful of losing their parents and for compassion toward refugees fleeing persecution and war zones.

Bishop Budde’s remarks followed Trump’s signing of a range of executive orders, including:

  • An order affirming the biological reality of sex: This directive proclaimed that there are only two genders, prohibited federal agencies from promoting gender ideology, and restricted federal funds from being used to advance such agendas.

  • Immigration enforcement measures: Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border, curtailed birthright citizenship for illegal aliens, and designated drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

  • Planned deportation wave: The administration is preparing to launch widespread deportations of illegal aliens in the coming days.

Trump’s actions represent a direct challenge to the far-left policies of the previous administration, prioritizing law and order while rejecting progressive attempts to redefine gender and undermine border security.

This is not the first time Bishop Budde has clashed with Trump. She criticized the president during his first term, most notably when he used riot police to clear Black Lives Matter protesters from the vicinity of the White House. At the time, she called his actions “antithetical to the teachings of Jesus and everything that we as a church stand for.”

Despite her appeals, Trump’s latest actions reflect a commitment to fulfilling his promises to the American people. By reasserting biological and legal realities, the administration is taking a firm stand against the erosion of traditional values and the exploitation of U.S. immigration laws.
