Joe Biden’s Gun Control Speech Riddled with Inaccuracies
Biden's latest gun control comments draw criticism for numerous factual errors and misleading statements.
President Joe Biden once again made waves with his remarks at Everytown’s annual Gun Sense University conference. As usual, his speech was riddled with factual inaccuracies and debunked claims, leaving critics and fact-checkers shaking their heads.
Here are some of the glaring errors Biden made:
False Professorship Claim: Biden asserted that he was a professor at Penn, a claim that has been repeatedly debunked. He never held such a position.
Second Amendment Misinterpretation: He claimed that during the implementation of the Second Amendment, individuals couldn't own cannons. Historical records clearly indicate that private ownership of cannons was indeed legal.
Misquote of Jefferson: Biden butchered Thomas Jefferson's famous quote, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants," failing to accurately recall the phrasing.
Greg Price highlighted these blunders in a succinct tweet, pointing out Biden’s erroneous statements in under a minute. Additionally, the New York Post refuted Biden's cannon ownership claim, explaining that 19th-century laws regulated cannon use rather than prohibiting ownership.
Biden also faced criticism from GunOwners of America for several other inaccuracies:
Need for F-15s: Biden suggested Americans would need F-15s to resist a tyrannical government, a statement seen as both false and inflammatory.
Immunity of Firearm Industry: He claimed the firearm industry is the only one with immunity from lawsuits, which is not true.
Child Mortality Statistics: Biden asserted that guns kill more children than car accidents and cancer combined, a claim not supported by data.
Misnaming the ATF: He mistakenly referred to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as the "AFT."
Amidst his speech, Biden reiterated his push for an "assault weapons" ban, questioning the need for magazines holding "200 shells." This call, however, was overshadowed by the numerous factual errors in his address.
The speech was momentarily interrupted by a pro-Palestinian protester accusing Biden of complicity in genocide due to his support for Israel in its conflict with Hamas.
As the 2024 presidential election approaches, Biden's frequent missteps and misleading statements continue to undermine his credibility, especially on issues as critical as gun control. It's clear that Americans deserve leaders who are accurate and honest in their public communications.
