Biden Makes First Public Appearance Since Exiting 2024 Race
President Biden Briefly Engages Reporters at Dover Air Force Base Following COVID Diagnosis and Campaign Withdrawal.
On Tuesday, President Joe Biden made his first public appearance in six days, marking his return since announcing his positive COVID diagnosis and his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. The president was seen exiting a vehicle at Dover Air Force Base, where he briefly interacted with reporters.
As Biden stepped out of the vehicle, reporters immediately shouted questions. "Mr. President, how are you feeling?" one asked, followed by others echoing the same query. Biden initially turned to face them without a clear response but eventually said, “Well,” accompanied by a thumbs up before turning away.
Reporters continued to press with questions about his health, his decision to drop out of the race, and his thoughts on Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign. However, Biden did not respond further and proceeded to board Air Force One. At the top of the stairs, he turned to salute, holding a medical mask in his left hand, before disappearing into the plane.
This appearance comes three days after Biden’s announcement, posted on X, that he would not seek the Democratic Party’s nomination for the 2024 election. Since Biden's endorsement, Vice President Kamala Harris has experienced a significant fundraising surge and declared herself the presumptive Democratic nominee after securing the necessary delegates.
Biden's team has announced plans for him to address the nation on Wednesday, further elaborating on his decision to step down and his support for Harris’s campaign.
