Biden Admin Uses Taxpayer-Funded Email To Boost Kamala Harris
Misuse of government resources sparks concerns over campaign ethics ahead of 2024 election.
The Biden-Harris administration is facing scrutiny after using taxpayer resources to promote Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 election. On Friday, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) sent out a mass email to millions of Medicare subscribers, touting the administration’s so-called “historic reforms” and attributing much of the credit to Harris.
The email, signed by President Joe Biden, highlighted health care cost reductions for seniors and praised Harris for casting the tie-breaking vote on the administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. Notably, it failed to mention Harris’s role as the Democratic nominee for President, raising questions about whether the administration is improperly leveraging government resources for campaign purposes.
The email, sent to roughly 66 million Medicare recipients, included a disclaimer that it was funded by the HHS and distributed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The content featured Biden lauding Harris’s contribution to Medicare reforms, with explicit references to her pivotal role in passing the Inflation Reduction Act.
Several recipients flagged the email as a thinly veiled campaign ad, expressing concern over the administration’s use of taxpayer dollars to promote Harris ahead of the election.
“It is nothing but a campaign ad for the Biden Administration and Kamala Harris,” one recipient, pointing out that the email emphasized Harris’s tie-breaking vote and her stance on healthcare as a “right.”
The use of government resources for campaign purposes is generally prohibited under Federal Election Commission (FEC) regulations. The Hatch Act also restricts civil-service employees in the executive branch from engaging in certain political activities. The Biden administration’s email could face legal challenges, especially given its timing so close to the 2024 election.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has previously raised concerns about the administration’s behavior, pointing to infrastructure project signs that praised Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. In a letter to the Office of Special Counsel, Cruz called the signs “nothing more than campaign yard signs courtesy of the American taxpayer.”
More troubling is the timing of the administration’s actions. Just last week, the Federal Reserve cut interest rates, a move that some have viewed as politically motivated to bolster Harris’s campaign. Former President Donald Trump suggested the same, warning, “It was a big cut... but it could be they’re playing politics.”
The Biden administration’s reliance on taxpayer-funded messaging raises serious questions about its ethical boundaries as Harris campaigns for the presidency. If this is just the beginning, Americans should brace themselves for more government-funded campaign efforts disguised as official communications.
