Biden Refutes Claims of Withdrawing from Presidential Race

President remains steadfast amid growing concerns about campaign viability.

President Joe Biden firmly denied on Wednesday that he is dropping out of the presidential race, despite reports from The New York Times suggesting his campaign is in jeopardy if he cannot convince voters of his mental fitness in the coming days.

During a call with his re-election campaign staff, Biden declared, "Let me say this as clearly as I possibly can, as simply and straightforward as I can: I am running." He emphasized his determination, stating, "No one is pushing me out. I’m not leaving. I’m in this race to the end and we’re going to win."

Vice President Kamala Harris echoed Biden’s sentiments during the call, stating, "We will not back down. We will follow our President’s lead. We will fight, and we will win. Joe Biden has devoted his life to fighting for the people of our country. In this moment, I know all of us are ready to fight for him."

Key Points:

  • Biden’s Commitment: The president affirmed his intent to remain in the race, countering rumors of his potential withdrawal.

  • Support from Harris: Vice President Harris rallied support for Biden, reinforcing the campaign’s unity and resolve.

  • Fundraising and DNC Support: Biden’s campaign and the DNC sent emails to supporters reaffirming Biden’s position as the Democratic leader.

In a bid to reinforce this commitment, Biden’s campaign sent a fundraising email to supporters on Wednesday afternoon, reiterating that he remains dedicated to the race. The Democratic National Convention (DNC) also sent out a separate email stating unequivocally that Biden is "staying in."

"He is the leader of the Democratic Party," the DNC email asserted. "If we’re with him, not only is he going to win, but we are going to elect Democrats up and down the ballot this fall."

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reinforced this message to reporters when asked if Biden would drop out of the race, responding, "Absolutely not. And you heard, I think, I believe, directly from the campaign as well."

Biden's steadfast response comes at a critical time as he faces increasing scrutiny over his cognitive abilities and the overall direction of his campaign. The president's commitment to staying in the race underscores his determination to address these challenges head-on and to maintain his leadership role within the Democratic Party.
