Biden Campaign Rejoices Over Trump’s Guilty Verdict

Biden-Harris team sees jury’s decision as affirmation of rule of law

The Biden-Harris campaign expressed jubilation on Thursday following the Manhattan jury’s guilty verdict in former President Donald Trump’s hush-money trial. This high-profile case, overseen by Judge Juan Merchan, concluded with Trump being convicted on all 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records concerning hush-money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

Biden Campaign Communications Director Michael Tyler issued a statement celebrating the decision. “In New York today, we saw that no one is above the law,” Tyler asserted. “Donald Trump has always mistakenly believed he would never face consequences for breaking the law for his own personal gain. But today’s verdict does not change the fact that the American people face a simple reality. There is still only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: at the ballot box. Convicted felon or not, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president.”

The campaign’s statement went further, criticizing Trump’s current political stance. “The threat Trump poses to our democracy has never been greater,” it read. “He is running an increasingly unhinged campaign of revenge and retribution, pledging to be a dictator ‘on day one’ and calling for our Constitution to be ‘terminated’ so he can regain and keep power. A second Trump term means chaos, ripping away Americans’ freedom and fomenting political violence — and the American people will reject it this November.”

This verdict arrives as a significant blow to Trump, who has been sidelined from the campaign trail for much of the past month due to the trial. Judge Merchan, who has been criticized for his political donations to President Joe Biden's 2020 campaign, scheduled Trump’s sentencing for July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention, where Trump is expected to be nominated.

The Biden-Harris campaign’s reaction highlights their belief that the rule of law has prevailed and underscores their ongoing effort to emphasize the stakes of the upcoming election. For many, the trial and its outcome serve as a critical reminder of the legal and ethical standards expected of those in or seeking public office.
