Benioff Criticizes Kamala for Avoiding TIME Interview, ‘Unlike Other Presidential Candidates’
Her refusal to engage raises serious questions about transparency and leadership.
Billionaire Marc Benioff took to social media on Sunday to criticize Vice President Kamala Harris for repeatedly dodging an interview request from TIME magazine, the very publication he owns. Harris, now a presidential candidate, has refused to sit down with TIME, unlike every other major contender, including Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Benioff, who has contributed to both Democrat and Republican campaigns, pointed out that despite multiple attempts, Harris continues to avoid engaging with the press in this capacity. In one of his posts on X (formerly Twitter), Benioff noted:
“Despite multiple requests, TIME has not been granted an interview with Kamala Harris unlike every other Presidential candidate. We believe in transparency and publish each interview in full. Why isn’t the Vice President engaging with the public on the same level?”
This lack of transparency from Harris raises serious concerns. Even Joe Biden, who dropped out of the race, managed to sit down with the publication. Meanwhile, Trump has shown no hesitation in laying out his policy ideas for the American people, speaking for 90 minutes across two interviews. Why is Kamala Harris so unwilling to subject herself to the same level of scrutiny?
Benioff isn't alone in questioning Harris. Billionaire investor Bill Ackman also weighed in, calling out Harris for refusing to engage. Ackman remarked, "[Harris] is the first presidential candidate in my lifetime that repeatedly declines to be interviewed for a story. That alone should tell you what you need to know about her."
While some defenders, like Democratic analyst Bakari Sellers, rushed to Harris' aid, citing interviews with 60 Minutes and town halls on Univision and CNN, the reality is stark: none of those outlets asked the tough, long-form questions TIME would. Her avoidance of a major publication with a longstanding tradition of interviewing top political figures suggests a lack of willingness to confront the difficult questions.
The implications are clear. Transparency and leadership go hand-in-hand, and the American people deserve to hear from every candidate in depth. Trump, once again, has proven he's ready to face the heat Harris, on the other hand, seems more interested in hiding behind the shield of controlled appearances.
It's time for Harris to step up and be as open with the public as her opponents have been. Voters are entitled to more than scripted sound bites and sanitized interviews. What is she afraid of?
