Backlash Against AOC for Promoting Hezbollah Propaganda After Israeli Pager Attack

Critics blast AOC for defending terrorists while ignoring Israeli efforts to protect civilians.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) faced significant backlash this week after echoing Hezbollah's propaganda in response to Israel’s recent military operation, which targeted the terrorist group’s communication devices. Israel detonated pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah operatives, many of which were rigged with explosives. The coordinated strike left dozens of terrorists dead and critically wounded hundreds more.

But AOC’s reaction sparked outrage when she posted on X (formerly Twitter), accusing Israel of violating international law. “Israel’s pager attack in Lebanon detonated thousands of handheld devices across a slew of public spaces, seriously injuring and killing innocent civilians,” she wrote. “This attack clearly and unequivocally violates international humanitarian law and undermines US efforts to prevent a wider conflict.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks were almost indistinguishable from Hezbollah's propaganda, which falsely framed the operation as an attack on Lebanese civilians. Joe Truzman, a senior research analyst at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), noted this disturbing alignment. “In a poor attempt to deflect Hezbollah’s failure, I’m seeing Hezbollah propaganda and their ilk attempting to frame the attack as an Israeli op against Lebanese civilians,” Truzman said. “Let’s be clear: The operation was against Hezbollah, and it was an impressive feat.”

AOC's statements didn’t just parrot Hezbollah talking points they ignored key facts about the operation and Hezbollah’s continued role as a terrorist organization committed to Israel’s destruction:

  • Hezbollah has been designated a terrorist group by both the U.S. and European Union.

  • Israel’s operation specifically targeted compromised communication devices used by Hezbollah, not civilians.

  • The pagers and walkie-talkies had been rigged with explosives, making them a direct threat to Israeli forces and regional stability.

Criticism poured in from various political figures. Chris Cuomo, a NewsNation anchor, challenged Ocasio-Cortez’s narrative, asking why she failed to acknowledge the terrorists involved. “Why don’t you mention the pagers were on members of a terrorist organization that is committed to destroying Israel?” Cuomo asked. “Would you have been defending al Qaeda when America was lighting them up in Iraq?”

The Republican Jewish Coalition also weighed in, pointing out AOC’s history of opposition to Israel’s defense measures. “This is the same AOC who cried as funding for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system which protects countless civilians from indiscriminate terrorist rockets passed the House,” the group posted on X. “A total disgrace.”

AOC’s failure to recognize Hezbollah’s responsibility for placing innocent lives in danger and her alignment with terrorist rhetoric raises serious concerns about her judgment on matters of national security. Her track record of criticizing Israel while ignoring the actions of groups like Hezbollah continues to undermine her credibility.
