AOC Slammed After Attacking Pro-Israel Group’s Influence
Ocasio-Cortez faces backlash for her inflammatory remarks on AIPAC and U.S. support for Israel.
Far-left Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) found herself in the crosshairs of public outrage after claiming on social media that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) was pushing a “wildly unpopular agenda.” Her comments come as support for Israel remains strong among Americans, with polls consistently showing broad backing for the Jewish state.
Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks, posted on X (formerly Twitter), accused AIPAC of driving voters away from Democrats, sparking swift and heated backlash. AIPAC responded by highlighting that several of Ocasio-Cortez’s former allies in the progressive “Squad” were rejected by voters in recent elections.
This is not the first time Ocasio-Cortez has courted controversy with her anti-Israel rhetoric:
2019: She agreed with a host labeling Israel “criminal” and “unjust” while claiming that “white supremacist Jews” exist.
2021: She was seen in tears when Congress approved funding for Israel’s Iron Dome, a critical defense system against missile attacks.
2023: She backed the Biden administration’s decision to withhold some military aid to Israel, citing the nation’s actions in Gaza.
The congresswoman has frequently defended violence against Israel, justifying Palestinian riots as the result of “marginalization” and lack of access to clean water. She has also admitted that her understanding of Israel stems from anti-Israel organizations like Jewish Voices for Peace and J Street.
Despite Ocasio-Cortez’s claims, a Harvard/Harris poll showed that over 80% of Americans support Israel over Hamas, sharply contrasting her assertion of AIPAC’s “unpopular agenda.” Many see her remarks as out of step with the values of both her constituents and the broader public.
Ocasio-Cortez’s latest attack drew sharp criticism:
AIPAC highlighted her colleagues’ electoral defeats as evidence of waning support for her anti-Israel stance.
Comedian Michael Rapaport labeled her a “race con artist,” capturing the frustration of many who see her rhetoric as divisive and damaging.
Ocasio-Cortez’s controversial views on Israel and her repeated criticisms of AIPAC risk alienating voters, especially as Democrats grapple with a growing rift in their party over U.S.-Israel relations. At a time when bipartisan support for Israel remains crucial, her comments underscore a deep disconnect with the broader American consensus.
