Tennessee Democrat Aftyn Behn Calls for Prison Abolition

Far-left congressional candidate pushes radical anti-police agenda, once praised burning down police stations.

Just days before the special election in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, Democrat candidate Aftyn Behn is facing renewed scrutiny for her radical anti-law enforcement positions including her repeated calls to abolish prisons entirely.

Behn, a self-described progressive activist running to replace Rep. Mark Green, deleted a Juneteenth social media post in which she said white people need to stop posting graphics and instead get behind the movement to abolish prisons.

“On this Juneteenth, we need less white folks posting Canva graphics and more adopting prison abolition as a political foundation,” Behn posted in June 2023.

The post, which was archived on the Wayback Machine, also recommended books that “enhanced” her political worldview books authored by some of the most extreme voices in the prison abolition movement.

But Behn didn’t just float the idea on social media she doubled down in an interview with The Tennessean last August.

“No, I do not agree with these ‘tough-on-crime’ policies,” she said. “As a legislator who believes in prison abolition, I am committed to addressing the root causes of crime rather than implementing punitive measures.”

A candidate for U.S. Congress wants to eliminate prisons. Not reform. Not review. Abolish.

And her record backs it up:

  • Behn voted against the death penalty for those convicted of raping a child, arguing that the harsh sentence might deter children from reporting abuse.

  • She previously praised Americans who support burning down police stations, tweeting in 2020:

“Good morning, especially to the 54% of Americans that believe burning down a police station is justified.”

When pressed about her extreme record, Behn brushed it off by saying she wouldn’t engage in “cable news talking points.”

That’s not the only controversy dogging her campaign.

In 2020, Behn said she “hates” the city of Nashville, despite now campaigning to represent a district that includes its suburbs.

“I hate the city, I hate the bachelorettes, I hate the pedal taverns, I hate country music,” she said in a podcast appearance. “I hate all of the things that make Nashville apparently an ‘it’ city to the rest of the country.”

Behn has also expressed willingness to break the law over abortion, saying she would help women obtain abortion pills even if it meant being arrested:

“The organizing does not stop just because Roe is overturned.”

Despite this radical record, Behn is backed by top national Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Rep. Jasmine Crockett the same Crockett who recently said, “I don’t want children, I want power!”

Meanwhile, Republican candidate Matt Van Epps has earned the full endorsement of President Donald Trump, who called on all patriots in Tennessee’s 7th District to show up and vote.

“PLEASE VOTE FOR MATT VAN EPPS, who has my Complete and Total Endorsement,” Trump posted Tuesday night.

Tennessee voters now face a clear choice: a proud America First conservative who believes in law and order or a far-left radical who wants to abolish prisons, defend rioters, and burn down police stations.
